The People’s Republic of China (in Chinese: 中国, in pinyin: Zhōngguó) is the most populated country in the world. The country covers 9.6 million square kilometers with a population of 1.3 billion citizens.   The country China is almost as big as Europe. On political level China is a single-party state governed by the Communist Party of China.
The president of China is Mister Hu Jintao. The president forms together with the premier Wen Jiabao, the congress chairman Wu Bangguo and the Conference Chairman Jia Qinglin the most important people on top of the government.
The Chinese flag is red with five stars in the left upper corner. One big star with 4 little stars arranged in a arc near the big star. Red is the sign of the spirit of revolution. It is also the color of communism. And the stars represent the unity of the people of China under leadership of Chinese communist Party. They started to use officially this flag on October 1st in 1949 when the announcement was made of the founding of People’s Republic of China.

The Chinese have also official holidays. Here is a list:
New Year’s Day – 1st January  
Spring Festival or Lunar New Year - in January and February
Labor Day 1st May
National Day 1st and 2nd October

Also commemorated are:
International Women’s Day – 8th March
Youth Day – 4th May
Children’s Day – 1st June
Chinese Communist Party Founding Day- 1st July
Army Day – 1st August
Teachers’ Day – 10th September
