EXAMINING THE OUTCOMES OF PTSD CAUSED BY EXPOSURE TO TERRORISM ON MEDICAL PROFESSIONALS OF PAKISTAN

Dummy Abstract:

Today with the whole global village, Pakistan is also badly suffering from the epidemic termed as terrorism. This epidemic is rigorously infecting the mental health of common men but being the frontline resisters in the war of terror the mental health of medical professionals is at the maximum of threat. In this article the author focuses the proficient from these departments felling the fatalities of PTSD by revelation to terrorism. To evaluate these consequences author followed the data collected via designed questionnaires. Findings of author’s research provide sufficient evidences to support the hypothesis that the medical professionals exposed to terrorism are more likely to bear strong outcomes of PTSD thus increase in Absenteeism and Counter work behavior is observed.

Introduction:

The word “Terror" comes from a Latin word “terrere “meaning "to frighten". This is the threat from which whole world is suffering today. Experiences involving death, injuries, fear, horror and helplessness called as traumatic events are consequences of terrorism. One of the common responses to stress is a chronic psychological disorder today known as Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (and previously was called Shell Shock or Battle Fatigue). Since terrorism has currently emerged as a prime issue for the defense of medical professionals, this paper is a study of the risk faced by these specialized persons.

Terrorism is defined in different words by different researchers e.g. Terrorism is much more severe than common crimes, as it violently targets innocent civilians directly resulting in increasing ill-treatment (Agnew, 2010).   The concept of terrorism is intensely disputed. Its use inclines to be in political discussions and biasness. In famous discussions terrorism is a negative label as much as an investigative tool (Martha Crenshaw, 2000).
