The Sims is a computer game which simulates life. It has 7 expansion packs, a sequel with its own expansion packs and another sequel that is currently under production. The game is very popular, with its sequel eventually reaching the 100 million mark in copies sold by April 2008. The whole point of the game is to create virtual people, called Sims, and control their virtual lives from sleeping and eating to working, making a family, interacting with other Sims…etc. Unlike RPG games, there isn’t actually any specific goal for a Sim. That is up to a player whether he or she wants the Sim to be successful or to starve it until it dies a horrible death, waving its arms and screaming in a language called Simlish.
Aside from controlling virtual people, The Sims appeals to the architect and the interior designer within you with Build Mode. In Build Mode, players get to build the houses of their Sims. Players can build their dream houses for their favorite Sim or if they’re too lazy to do it, have other players to do it for them. This is possible with the huge online community dedicated to making household furniture, clothes and other cool objects for the Sims. Of course, what’s virtual life without virtual money? Like in real life, Sims need money to pay the bills and buy food. Sims also need jobs but there are cheats for those lazy players out there.
One setback in the game, however, is that you are limited to playing on one lot so the Sim that is being played cannot visit the houses of other Sims but random visitors may come at any time to the house. This also means that when a sim is in school or is working, the player won’t be able to see it. Another is that Sims can’t age. Babies can become children can’t become adults and adults can’t die of old age.
