Euthanasia: A Debatable Issue
Should euthanasia be done?
In this modern era where technology has become incredibly advanced, many depend on it including medical field. One of the most debatable issues these days is whether or not euthanasia should be done. Euthanasia refers to a condition where a life is ended purposely in order to relieve the suffering. This essay will argue that euthanasia should be performed in medical case. The reasons for this are the long suffering of a patient will be ended, cost of expensive medical treatment will no longer be an issue, and lastly, burden for the family members will be gone.
Firstly, it could be said that euthanasia allows patients who suffer for a long period of time to no longer feel the pain. For example, patients who have been in coma and brain dead for several years and are still alive only because of the life support machines. All body functions are supported by machines since the brain does not work anymore. Therefore, patients who are having this kind of condition are incurable because nothing can be done to save these patients. However it is often argued that patients can still hear and feel, thus others have no right of taking sufferer’s life. As a result, applying various kinds of machines to patients will just extend the suffering. Thus, it would be better if life supporting machines are removed and let the patients end the suffering.
Secondly, it can be argued that the longer the patients are having the medical treatment, the bigger the cost that should be paid. Patients who are treated in special treatment for instance in Intensive Care Unit (ICU) need to pay extensive amount of money in order to keep the treatment going. For example, if the patient is in coma for many years, the family is the one who is supposed to pay all the excessive amount of medical fees. This condition can be troublesome and worrying for family who does not have good financial condition since they have to work hard to figure out how to pay hospital bills. For
