Euthanasia or Doctor-Assisted Suicide

    Webster’s Dictionary defines euthanasia as the act of killing or permitting the death of a person or animal that is sick or injured in a painless way for reasons of mercy. Euthanasia also originates from the Greek meaning “good or easy death.” Euthanasia today is a very controversial topic. Should euthanasia be legalized?
    There are so many loved ones diagnosed with cancer today. Statistics are that one in every family in America will have a person diagnosed with this deadly quiet disease.   There have also been so many cases of misdiagnoses of this disease. On October 12, 2009 a 76-year-old man Jack Jones was told his cancer had returned and he was sent back to hospice to die. While in hospice, Jack was denied food, water, and care. Jack was given painkillers and the doctors told his family there was nothing further they could do for him. To the family’s surprise after Jack died, they learned through autopsy results that he had a simple case of pneumonia and he would have survived if given the proper care and treatment. How many cases such as the case of Jack have doctors missed? So many people in today’s society want euthanasia legalized for humans because they do not want them to suffer. Although euthanasia is legal for animals; it should not be legal for humans because it sends the wrong message to society.
    Euthanasia should not be legal because morally it is wrong and it shows the public has no faith in doctor’s technology. Euthanasia or assisted-suicide is not about the right to die but about the right to kill. It is illegal by law Government or the Bible to kill someone. If the government legalizes euthanasia or doctor-assisted suicide it will send the message to society that the Bible is a lie. “Thou shalt not kill” Exodus 20:13 (KJV).
