Assisted Suicide and Euthanasia Article Reflection
Over the years, a big argument has set base over the topics of assisted suicide and euthanasia. Legalization of the two has been a rising debating subject and has a great deal of supporters on both sides. Although many younger people pass this case off as just “another thing” and do not pay much attention to it, this situation plays a main role on how people may go on about with their lives.
After reading this article, it really has opened my eyes to the other side of the debate. I will admit, I was one of more ignorance and paid more attention to my opinion on the matter. Although I do now see the other side and where people may come from, I still have the feeling that it should be left to the person in the situation, and if they choose to end their life through assisted suicide or euthanasia, it should be allowed. In this article, it refers to how people do not have the power over life and should not get to choose when their time is up. With this being said, I feel this should not be provided as a dominant reason of why the law should not be passed. Who does have the power over life? Not everyone is of religious background or part of a religion. I think the choice should be made more from an atheist perspective, one who believes in no god, so there is not a biased conscious upon the subject. Also, take into idea those who have a life, day in and day out, revolved around pain. Yes the example, “medication is to kill the pain, not the patient” is thought but really, who would like to live a life based upon swallowing pain medication every 4-6 hours or where you know there is just no way around the devastation of being in that pain for so long? Of course there are people who say one should just deal with it, but who are they to make a decision when they are not in the situation?
