Europe is the world's second-smallest continent by surface area, covering about 10,180,000 square kilometres (3,930,000 sq mi) or 2% of the Earth's surface and about 6.8% of its land area. Germany is the most populate country in Europe (after RUssia) with a population of 82 425 000. The longest river in Europe is Volga,with 3,692 km, which is draining into Caspian Sea. The second- longest river is Dunarea,with 2,860 km, which crosses our country before draining into Black Sea. Great Britan is the largest island nation,with an area of 218,595 km^. The East European Plain is the largest mountain-free part of the European landscape. The Scandinavian Mountains are the longest mountain range in Europe,with 1,700 km. Galdhøpiggen is the highest peak,at 2,469 metres ( in Norway ) The Carpathian Mountains are the second-longest mountain range in Europe with 1,500 km. Gerlachovský štít is the highest peak,at 2,655 m ( in Slovakia ). The Alps are one of the great mountain range systems of Europe stretching approximately 1,200 km. Mont Blanc is the highest peak,at 4,810 m ( beetwen French–Italian border ) The Alpine region area contains many peaks higher than 4,000 m, known as the "four-thousanders".
