Ethnic Groups and Discrimination

      I am an African American woman, but not of Hispanic decent, living in the United States of America.   My ethnic group did not colonize nor immigrate into the United States, but were brought to this country to serve as slaves.   I assume the nearest definition of how we were physically displaced would be that of colonization.   Beginning with the separation of family members for the purpose of auction block sales to their eventual destination as slaves to work on their slave owner’s plantations, my ethnic group was forced into an oppressive form of colonization for profit.
      The politically correct term used today to identify my race and ethnicity is African American.  Through the civil rights movement of the sixties this term became the widely accepted and politically correct term used to describe my race, due to the rampant racism and prejudice which my people had faced throughout our history in America.
      My race has been victimized by prejudice, segregation, and racism for as many years as we have been in the United States of America.   We have been victimized by prejudice, which is defined as:   unreasonable feelings, opinions, or attitudes, esp. of a hostile nature, regarding a racial, religious, or national group. prejudice.
