I would send more of a casual message to my family, friends, or a classmate just to let them know everything is ok. My letter to the insurance company o the other hand has to be more professional and has to have many more details because they need to know exactly what happened at the accident.
I was in a minor car accident earlier this afternoon. Do not worry no one was hurt, but I was a little shaken up when it happened. There is some damage to the car but nothing to major. The other person’s car has just the same amount of damage but we have it all under control and contacted the police and the insurance companies. It is mostly just our bumpers and a little bit of the hoods that was damaged but nothing else really. Do not worry I will call you as soon as I get the chance.

Anthony, when you are writing in a class forum it is definitely important to use inclusive language because you never know who is going to be reading your messages male or female. You need to keep your responses mutual with both men and women because in your case you did not want to come off sexist but you did because you mentioned mostly men in your post.
