“Football needs to start making Title IX sacrifices”

Gender equity within academic institutions should be balanced. I feel the contribution towards an institution should not become a factor in the distribution of scholarship. The importance of diversity, and equality is an idea that many academic institutions strive for. Why would institutions not make changes towards broadening its opportunity as resource? The fact that some programs generate more revenue than others should not affect availability or resource. The relative size of the program should be a responsible proportion that allows for equal allotments for existing venues. I believe the only way to achieve true success is through reform of all institutions and their policy towards sports and participation. The article talks about the National Wrestling Coaches Association’s recently filed suit against the Department of Education. The article cites college football as the main reason for creating the unbalanced distribution of scholarships.
Gender equity puts stress on institutions, and programs get cut. The article sheds light on the biased and preferential treatment with regards to college football, and how these programs extend beyond the realm of responsible and equal share of resource. Reducing minor sports programs becomes the path of least resistance. The article talks about the limitation standards and response of college football coaches, every time they adjusted the number of scholarships. Initially there were no limitations on scholarships. Then the sequence was 120, 95, 88, and currently 85 scholarships.   Coaches complained each time reductions were made. The article also talks about opportunity that could be created through offering more scholarships to other programs.
