This paper will address the ethical issues of the business that we have to deal with in our everyday life. I will also discuss three ethical issues that we have to face with in the workplace and our communities such as discrimination, sexual harassment and conflict of interest.
Business ethics is a form of applied ethics that examines ethical principles and problems that occur in the business environment.   Companies have to examine their behavior towards the outside world. They have to look at morality, ethical reasoning and ethics application. Ethical theories are important in resolving moral problems in business. When making decisions, it is important that managers and employees should incorporate moral concerns. In every business a set of rules are created which is called code of conduct for their employees. The codes of conduct are guidelines for employees on how they should act and represent the business, it is important for them to know right from wrong.
Three ethical issues that we are faced with in the workplace are discrimination, sexual harassment conflict of interest. Discrimination takes place when an employee is treated unfairly because of race, religion, national origin or characteristics. One situation is an older employee who has been working with a company for 20 years is now reporting to a department manager who is younger and has only been with the company for 2 years. The older employee has resented her department manager, she feels that the manager is not experienced enough to be giving her instructions or to even be her supervisor. She thinks that she has been with the company too long and she knows what to do. Age is a factor; this will only increase for years to come because you find that more young people are taking over higher positions than older folks. Other ethical factors that affect people’s behavior are race, religion and sexual stereotype.
