This essay aims to discuss and analyze the ethical issues concerned with Ahmed, a Middlesex University student who is working for a marketing firm called GreatBrands.com. Ahmed has a placement contract with GreatBrands.com. There was a verbal contract between Ahmed and the company, that he would maintain the confidentiality of the organizations intellectual property. Ahmed had gained the trust and confidence of his managing director, Michelle Jordon. He suggested Ahmed that he should work for the company after he graduates. Ahmed loved working for GreatBrands.com but he wanted to keep his options open just in case he would like to set up his own company. At the end of his placement, he copied all of the customer base information and company software, so that he could save his initial investment, just in case he decides to open his own business.
The various stakeholders involved in this case are Ahmed, GreatBrands.com, Ahmed’s company and Middlesex University. The issues or consequences related to Ahmed will be that if he decides to set up his own business and then uses the intellectual property of GreatBrands.com, then he might run a risk of getting sued by GreatBrands.com for stealing their intellectual property. The issues related to GreatBrands.com could be that they would lose their business to Ahmed’s new company. Also, they might not accept any more interns in the future, in order to avoid fraud. The issues related to Ahmed’s company would be that they could get sued by GreatBrands.com for stealing their intellectual property. Therefore, they run a risk of complete shut down or bad market reputation, which in turn will affect the future earning of the business.
