I have dealt with a lot of racism. Since I was in Middle School, my twin sister and I played basketball we dealt with parents making comments about us and also the basketball coach treated other players better. People always said that my twin sister and I was the best in the county. It was one particular game that the coach had all the white players in the game, and my sister and I were on the bench. He finally put us in the game and we started winning the game, then the coach took us right back out. I really think that racism had a lot to do with that. You would think that racism wouldn’t interfere in sports, but you would be amazed. In school I remember that my cousin had got killed by a car. When we all found out about it then we got to school the next morning. They announced her death over the intercom. They also had a moment of silence and a special prayer for her. They allowed all the students to go to a classroom and tell different stories about her; they also allowed us to cope with everything. As the day went by then we all were still crying at school. So around lunch time then a white student had made a comment saying “I don’t know why all these people are walking around here crying, to me it’s just another nigger dead”. I was shocked and upset about the comment, because he made that comment about a dead person and also referred to her as a nigger. Also, where I work at then we only have 2 African Americans that works there. It was a black girl and a white girl that came in to fill out an application, they both had great sense of humor and they met the qualifications for the position. The only difference was that the black girl had more experience than the white girl. My manager hired the white girl, we all were asking him why, only thing he said that she would be easier to train.
