Jane has been recently hired as the company’s first-ever process manager. She has been reviewing the company’s best practices of system development with the intent of establishing a formal systems development process for the company. She has two employees, Carrie and Brian, both who will work under her as system developers. Carrie and Brian bring years of experience at a large firm to the table. Carrie is described as someone who is a big proponent of iterative/incremental development approaches, whereas Brian is a long time proponent of the waterfall approach. Both employees are very opinionated on the tools and techniques that are needed for system development projects and both are trying to lobby Jane to adopt their preferred techniques. Jane has been put in a position that is difficult because, one she is now in charge of improving these tools and techniques that Carrie and Brian are lobbying to her and two if she chooses one approach over another, she might get some slack from the other employee and she does not want to cause an unsettled working environment. Jane is now trying to figure out from a technical and human resource perspective what her options are to accommodate both employees, such as establishing a process management solution, and what tools and techniques she can use to foster team cohesion when one analyst does not get their way. As the process manager I would discuss with both analysts that while they have different perspectives on what tools and techniques work best, each approach, whether waterfall, iterative or incremental would be taken into account dependent upon the nature of the project. Jane needs to find a way she can foster teamwork when one member does not get their way. Haven’t we all heard the adage Two Heads are Better than one? Yet as

One of the reasons which led to the disagreement between Lyndon and Jane was because of the lack of proper goal setting. One of the key factors in acquiring desirable results is setting the right expectations for subordinates. For Jane delivering results was the biggest concern and she had the stereotyped belief that men are better managers, she wanted to prove that women can be equally capable and she can excel in the management role given to her. This made her expect a lot from Lyndon. While his colleagues had to work on one strategic operation, Lyndon was given the responsibility to work on two strategic operations while working on an additional report for a special environmental project on consumer buying trends which was handed down over to him directly through Executive VP. His initial concerns of the unrealistic estimates were not taken into account; Moreover Lyndon was also stereotyped to be able to better understand the requirements of the African American…

As a team leader, Jane has already touched based with her group and recognized everybody’s role: Tom is “the joker,” Jack is “the intellectual,” Caroline is “the mom” and Andy is “the top performer and troublemaker.” She understands that all of them are high-paid employees and have been working as a group for a while, at least much longer than she has. As far as the performance, Jane believes that they are high performers and make up a very interesting and strong group; although there is no evidence of it since the company has been trying to keep the top 80% of employees, so all the members but Andy could be still working because the management like them and also be considered as average performers or even lower-level. What is true and seems to be temporary: Caroline, the oldest member, is currently having a questionable efficiency because some personal issues. Moreover, Jane has made up her mind with the idea that Andy has not only the best performance but also a nasty and irreversible behavior, so the team is pretty much split in two sides: Andy and the rest. Based on her first impressions about the company’s too-nicey-nice atmosphere, should she also think about that as Andy and the company? There is no way to know this. But what it seems to be obvious, is that the latter leader couldn’t fix this whole situation up either.…

Kristin uses the power of her new position to get Steven to give her the names of the bad team players or else she will start to think he is part of the problem. System development methodologies are promoted as a means of improving the management and control of the software development process, structuring and simplifying the process, and standardizing the development process and product by specifying activities to be done and techniques to be used. It is often tacitly assumed that the use of a system development methodology will improve system development productivity and quality. However, there is little empirical evidence to support this assumption. As we know that, Information System (IS) refers to a system of people, data records and activities that process the data and information in an organization, and it is includes the organization's manual and also the automated processes.…
