Assignment 4 week 1 – Establish Ground Rules
This assignment will explain three methods how I would establish ground rules with my learners, which would underpin behaviour and respect.
The learners would be set out in small groups each with a set of flash cards. The flash cards would have a boundary and explanation set out in words and picture for visualisation learning. I would ask the groups to prioritise what they thought to be important to them through group discussion, giving equal opportunities to all learners. I would give them a time limit of 15 minutes to do this. I would then bring the discussion to a close and take number 1 priority from each table, through discussion; the ground rule would be agreed by all learners then marked onto a flip chart for all to see. I would define their priorities in this manner challenging thoughts through questioning techniques until all was agreed that we had established ground rules for this class of learners.
I would have an open discussion with my group of learners of how we could develop ground rules to underpin respect and behaviour, planting seeds to the learners by giving examples of what I thought was important to each other for respect and behaviour. Example - would it be fair to switch all mobile telephones onto silent/off, not to distract another person in lesson from learning. The class would then choose whether to adopt my example for their ground rules still allowing them to make a choice. The agreed ground rules would be wrote onto a board or chart.
I could establish ground rules with my learners through role play, I would split the group into two groups I would ask one group to sit and observe while the other group was acting. I would ask the first group to act a scene of bad behaviour then reverse for group 2. I would hold an open discussion with both groups to define and establish ground rules from the role play.
