Conflict in the Story in the Film Tuck Everlasting
Tuck Essay

I think that the Tuck story had one main conflict. It is an external struggle between the tucks and the Man in the Yellow Suit. This is an external conflict because it is a physical struggle between characters. The Tucks and the stranger have different views on the spring. The Tucks think that it should be kept a secret and that people shouldn’t live forever Tuck even says that “life is like a wheel and we Tucks are like stones, never moving or changing”. The stranger thinks that people should live forever. He further angers the Tucks by wanting to use Winnie to advertise the spring he said “I won’t let just anyone drink this water just rich and important people”.
Mae ends this conflict by killing the stranger by whacking him with a shotgun. Another conflict is Winnie vs. Winnie. This is an internal conflict between Winnie and herself. She is trying to decide on whether to live forever with Jesse, or to live a natural life. She decides to live a natural life because she thinks it is the right thing to do. She is at first reluctant but then decides that she can drink from the spring any time she wants seeing as its her wood. In the epilogue it is revealed that she does not drink from the spring but dies a natural death. Tuck says “Good girl” when he sees Winnie’s grave. I think these two conflicts are the main conflicts in the story. They both have very serious disagreements, and in both someone dies in the internal struggle Winnie dies, but in the external struggle the stranger dies.
Both sides are different but are the same as well. Each side has his own idea of who is right and who is wrong. In the end one side always wins.

In the novel Tuck Everlasting by Natalie Babbit, a girl named Winnie meets the Tuck family and she must decide whether or not she should drink from the magic spring and live forever. I believe that Winnie should not drink from the spring for many reasons. First of all, if she drinks from the spring and lives eternally, she will have to watch as all of her friends and family die as they age. Additionally, if she lives forever her life will lose its purpose. Also, if she doesn’t age, people will get suspicious of her and they will get scared and desert her. Finally, after she drinks from the spring she will stop growing and changing, like it says on page 63 “Left behind. And everywhere around us things is moving, growing, and changing”.…

The central conflict is the problems in Julie’s time. Julie Gerchak is the protagonist of this novel. Julie was trying to better the world. Alan Lomax and the close to impossible problems in the world were the antagonists. A somewhat regular topic was a Person vs. Person literary conflict, Alan Lomax vs. Julie Gerchak. “The dork wasn’t afraid.” (page 11) although this happened long ago in the novel Julie carried out her hatred for Alan Lomax throughout the her experience with Ishmael. Watching Julie grow more mature and understandable throughout the book was really quite amazing. Near the end of the novel Julie was more open minded and more intellectual than how she first started out at the…

There are numerous differences between Winnie and the stranger. This was shown throughout the novel, Tuck Everlasting. For instance, the stranger wants to use the fountain to get money. This fact was interpreted when the stranger says, “‘You can show me where the spring is and help me advertise. We’ll set up demonstrations. You know-things that would be fatal to anybody else, but won’t affect you in the least’” (Babbitt 47). He wants the Tucks to be part of a freak show so that the stranger…

Conflict is a very significant factor of fiction. Without conflict there would be no story. The main conflict in "The Grim Grotto" is locating the sugar bowl and keeping it away from Count Olaf. The opposing forces are Count Olaf's troupe and the Baudelaire orphans. This conflict was never resolved within the book. However, there are many subordinate conflicts in this story. The first subordinate conflict is finding Quigley Quagmire and meeting him at the last safe place. The conflict is in between the Baudelaire orphans and Count Olaf. This is the Baudelaire's conflict. Another one is saving the youngest Baudelaire-Sunny from the poisonous Medusoid Mycelium. This is Sunny's conflict because she is suffering from the Medusoid Mycelium. All of these conflicts were external conflicts because they are about characters against each other and not about emotions.…

Philosopher Emerson once said “every coin has two sides; so do conflicts”. In the pages of human history, conflicts are unavoidable and while major conflicts such as war have been evil forces in the world it can also produce very positive results. That is not to say conflict is entirely positive. When conflict arises there are those individuals that show unexpected qualities; those assets that are sudden and unforseen. These assets can be seen in the movie The Sapphires through the character Dave and on a global scale through Mandela. Unfortunately there are also those individuals who in the midst of conflict express unexpected negative traits. This can be seen through the characters Gail and Kay in The Sapphires and most recently through Eddie McGuire. Ultimately, until individuals are challenged we will never truly know how they will react.…

Conflict is a universal concept that can be started in various ways, often leading to arguments or violence. In Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet, conflict arises of ten and between many characters. In Act 3 Scene 1, Tybalt, Mercutio and Romeo struggle to contain their anger leading to violence and death. In Act 1, Lady Capulet and Juliet both harbour their own desires about marriage that are conflicting. Finally, Tybalt's desire to dispel Romeo at the party scene shows him internal hatred rising uncontrolled to the surface. All of these scenes show that an individual's inability to control their selfish desires leads to conflict.…

The conflict is introduced by means of a complication that sets in motion the rising action, usually toward a climax and eventual resolution" (Charters 1782).…
