The novel, Song of the Hummingbird by Graciela Limon, is a book about Huitzitzilin’s encounters during the Spanish conquest and the coming of Cortes. There are many themes in this novel, such as war, religion, culture, sins and the ending of an Era for the Mexicas. But it does not start off of her telling her stories, but of a young monk named Father Benito Lara, who is called to hear her last confession, for she was very old and knew she was near the end of her long journey. Father Benito went to listen to Huitzitzilin everyday for she had much to say about her life and about her culture before and during the Spanish conquest. She told him some sins throughout their conversations, and when she did not talk about their sins, he would write down all that she was saying so he can record her side of what happened during the conquest, for he only heard teachings of how the Spaniards had seen the conquest.…
The Beak of the Finch opens with Peter and Rosemary Grant studying their well-recognized finches on one of the islands on the Galápagos called Daphne Major. The couple records their data carefully, collecting the birds’ wing length, tarsus length, beak length, beak depth, plumage and weight. The reader first notices and questions such tedious, meticulous measurements of the simple finch. However, later, the novel reveals later that the precise measurements these scientists are taking are crucial, especially for the bird. The Grants briefly review the bird’s history, including its age, how often it had bred and any offspring it had raised. Recording information about each of the finches on Daphne Major is an important part of studying evolution. The novel explains that not many scientists have actually studied evolution, though it is an extremely important subject in science. Darwin’s theory of natural selection has been neglected, with very few experiments testing its extraordinary capability. It actually seems as if no one realizes the power of Darwin’s theory, not even Darwin himself.…
In the snippet from the book lies my teacher told me by James W. Loewen, the author, explains how many high school students think that history is a boring subject for them to learn due to the fact that it does not interest them learning from a text book. While as in Song of the Hummingbird by Graciela Limon Father Benito is interested in learning outside his traditional teaching because he wants to know by personal experiences about the Aztec lands. Hummingbird the person he is confessing is telling him about her personal experiences that she faced when the Spaniards conquered Mexico which was called New Spain at the time. He was interested in learning more because all the things that she told him about the Aztec lands were different from…
Imagine living in a civilization that practiced human sacrifice and ritual dances, and then one day that civilization no longer exists because another culture decided to conquer them. These people are known to modern society as the Aztecs. In Graciela Limon's novel, Song of the Hummingbird, she illustrated how a culture like the Aztecs or Mexica, can quickly diminish when there are people such as the Spanish that have very limited understanding about certain subjects. Some people may say that the Aztecs were slaughtered because the Darwinian principle of natural selection even applies to mankind. This concept was perceptible when the Spaniards marched with horses, advanced technology, and armor. But through this novel, anyone can see that the Aztecs were willing to make peace with the Spaniards until they started to be aggressive against the Aztecs. Limon also portrayed that the Spaniards didn't even try to understand the Mexica culture, but they saw human sacrifice as an act that pertained to the devil. Many people can agree with Graciela Limon that people needed to treat and understand each other better, because it was clear that if people had not done so, then it created several problems between people just like the Aztecs and Spaniards.…

She believes that the novel could’ve been different if there was just a bit more detail. Prose interprets To Kill a Mockingbird in a way that focuses on prejudice and racism.…

The author who wrote this text “Joyas Voladoras” is Bryan Doyle. When Bryan Doyle writes, he not only expresses his feelings but he puts his whole heart into the story. He puts his heart into the story means that he does his best and makes his story very compelling. Brian Doyle has two boys named Liam and Joseph. His son Liam has a chamber in his heart missing, only 3 chambers in his heart while we humans have four chambers in our heart. This chapter “Joyas Voladoras” from the book The Wet Engine tells us that Liam only has 3 chambers in his heart and how many operations Liam had and how Doyle struggled. Later on in the story, he talks about human emotion and a little bit about his son Liam and how the whole story has a certain reason for it. The deeper message Brian Doyle is conveying to us in “Joyas Voladoras” is to love your life, you only have one life so you have to live it with meaning and with purpose.…
When The Fabulous Freebirds first came to the ring with rock and roll blasting, it was revolutionary. When Vince McMahon got Cindy Lauper and MTV to cross-promote their programming it was groundbreaking. For every hit moment like those in rock and wrestling, there are plenty of flops. The Simon Cowell produced "Slam Jam" can barely be considered music and still somehow managed to hit the UK charts. Looking back, "Rap is Crap" made the otherwise lovable Mr. Perfect Curt Hennig look like an out-of-touch, redneck tool. At WrestleMania XIX, Limp Bizkit got Roman Reigns level boos from the crowd who were generally sick of their repetitive, whiny nu metal. Even on a personal level wrestlers and rock musicians have clashed. Motley Crue drummer Tommy…

The story is told by Alan who is also the central character in the novel. Most of it is told by the older Alan in flashback. Through-out the novel the servants and villagers refer to him as 'Master Alan' although he is a child, this has to do with the social climate at the time. Several things mark off Alan as being superior to the other children; his clothes are better, he uses standard English, he can read, his manners are refined. The major conflict he faces rests in the fact that he gets along far too well with the brown faces; his parents, though quite conservative when compared to other whites at the time, do not want him to get too involved with them. They prefer for him to make friends with people who share their social standing. Alan must choose whether to obey his parents or follow his heart. Several events througout the text calls for him to choose. He obeys his parents when the pressure is too great for him to do otherwise, but he goes against their wishes when he sees that he can get away with it.…
