Prof. Fatima EGL 1010 05/06/13 Cell Phones Usage while Driving Cell Phones have grown in popularity enormously in the last years. Having them seem to have become a necessity to many twelve year olds and to some senior citizens. They are the most widely spread used device of communication for Americans. Some of them are capable of performing task like a computer would. Due to the increasing popularity and ever changing technology, cell phone usage has increased while operating a motorized vehicle. Some driver’s text or read messages while driving. These post potential threats to the drivers. Cell phones usage while driving could be dangerous and lead to lots of unforeseen circumstances like death, rushing to the emergency room and leaving an individual with a life threatening medical condition. Cell phones have an effect on America’s built environment, especially through widespread advertising. Cell phones have grown to be popular in the United States unlike the Internet, which on the other hand has caused digital division between various social classes. It is also recognized to be glamorous and inexpensive. The majority of the cell phone subscribers in America personalizes and decorates their cell phones, bringing about folk art cottage sector. The cell phone has grown to be a kind of art, whereby a cell phone user’s preference of phone and decoration serves as a sort of personal statement.
The emergence of the mobile cellular phone has as well brought about changes in various cultural norms in America. Industries, movie theaters, cafés and parks are just a number of spaces where the suitability of cell phone discussions is unclear and doubtful. Cell phones were first introduced in the U.S. in the mid 1980’s, and have since experienced dramatic growth. Cell phone use while driving should be the concern of motorists and policymakers and have lead policymakers to consider whether the use of cell phone while driving should be regulated or even prohibited. These new technologies often have people regularly engaged in multitasking activities behind the wheel. Unfortunately, these distractions come at a cost of diverting attention away from the primary task of driving. It can be speculated that people who use their cell phones while driving is likely to engage in risky behaviors. However, cell phones are useful technology for people on the move, and that include people operating motor vehicles. Majority of cell phone owners report that they use the technology while driving. However, concerns have been raised that the use of cell phone while driving increases the risks of traffic collisions, property damages, injuries and fatalities. It may however be the case of a person’s emotional state while on phone that contributes to driving erratically.
