The qualities of a hero include selflessness, having the inspiration to be a founder and being courageous. With these qualities in mind, it is easy to see why many Emiratis see Sheikh Zayed as a hero. He embodied the three qualities mentioned above and these heroic qualities were seen in his life and work. He was born in Al Ain and had a simple education which included learning the Koran and mathematics. His education also involved activities which tested his courage such as hunting, spending long hours in the desert, often without food or water. His father was also a leader so Sheikh Zayed was also destined to become a leader. It is certain that he learnt many leadership qualities from his father. Over 40 years, Sheikh Zayed turned the desert of Abu Dhabi into a thriving business centre with oil being it’s main source of revenue along with other petrochemical industries. To most people born and brought up in the UAE, Sheikh Zayed embodies the heroic qualities of selflessness, being an inspiring founder and having great courage to follow his dreams and beliefs. Firstly, the heroic attributes of selflessness was one of Sheikh Zayed’s prime qualities. According to Brown (2011), to be a true hero, one must think only of others. The hero never worries about their own welfare but always thinks of the welfare of others. Furthermore, a hero is not concerned about making life better for themselves. On the contrary, they are concerned about making life better for others. He understood the need for education and so built schools, making education free for all. His concern for education meant that many of his people
developed their full potential as leaders in business and government. So although he had huge wealth, his heroic drive and qualities ensured that this wealth was spent on improving the life of others while keeping his feet firmly on the ground. In...
