Yet, it is a fact that one cannot be completely sure and certain about their future career. We should always weigh both sides of the coin. I had several questions in my mind before taking this decision. Some of them included: Will I be able to secure a good job as I graduate? Is it really worth it? Can I graduate in four years? If I had to take extra classes, how will I manage the extra costs? My parents are already spending so much money; will they agree to bear more expenses? Even though I knew the answers to all these questions would be very complicated, I still decided to give it a try and weigh both sides of the coin. However, many of my doubts were cleared once I started doing research and working on this paper. I realized that even though…

Neither of my parents graduated from college, I am the first in my family to earn an associate’s degree. I chose to pursue my college education despite pressures from my working-class family to just work instead. They wanted me to avoid what they view as a costly and unnecessary expense and to stay out of debt in order to avoid the money-problems they faced. At HCC, need-based grants covered my tuition, but I hope that with scholarships like the ones UT offers, I can afford to finish my degree and inspire my six brothers and sisters to pursue thier college education.…

With the termination of World War II in 1945, millions of military veterans flooded the United States with hopes and ambitions for the future. However, these veterans required assistance in order to achieve their goals of returning to their pre-war lives. Long before the end of the war, Franklin Delano Roosevelt and his advisors were already planning post wartime programs to assist veterans in an attempt to correct the mistreatment of military members throughout history. Over the course of the one hundred and fifty years between 1780 and 1930, governmental assistance provided to veterans was limited to pensions awarded to Union soldiers after the Civil War, land grants bestowed on Revolutionary War veterans, and cash bonuses endowed on World…

Along with the development of society and the improvement of technology, the meaning of education is becoming more and more important. Currently, the question of the purpose of higher education has drawn the public’s attention. A many people insist that higher education should teach students practical skills, the ability of problem-solving, and career oriented skills. They claim that those skills are necessary and useful for students to join society get use for their career. Engaging students to write argumentative essays effectively and constructively is a general concern for WR 121 instructors here at University of Oregon. Because WR 121 emphasizes a different form of argumentative writing from a five-paragraph essay that students are generally used to, many students struggle to grasp the enthymeme-based argumentative writing that is being taught at University of Oregon. To ease the students’ understanding of utilizing enthymeme process, composition instructors take a great amount of time to select topics that could engage students. Some instructors prefer to teach students to write on popular culture such as sports and social media; others employ academic topics, which the students may not be familiar with, such as sustainability and globalization. While popular culture may seem to quickly bring students’ attention and express their thoughts on the paper, the effectiveness of these topics as teaching materials for critical argument should be questioned. WR 121 should require students to write about academic topics that they may not be familiar with because WR 121 emphasizes critical thinking, which is difficult to facilitate with popular cultures.…

It’s important to get a college education not only to be successful in the future but also to think for yourself and gain freedom through education, we can accomplish this by being educated liberally. Like Cronon, I think “a liberal education is about gaining the power and wisdom, the generosity and the freedom to connect” (Cronon; paragraph 18) to the real world.…

Although none of them have ever said so directly, my teachers have often given me the impression that four-year institutions are more educational and beneficial than two-year community colleges. In the discussion of higher education, one controversial issue has been which is more beneficial to young adults trying to get their feet on the ground, a four-year institution or a two-year community college. On the one hand, people in favor of four-year institutions argue that four years of higher education obviously trumpets that of only two year, which a community college offers. The amount of knowledgeable information that can be absorbed by a young mind given an extra two years may be astronomical. On the other hand, those in favor of two-year community colleges contend that the amount of debt collected during those four years at large universities cripples ones ability to get a successful start at life with $300, $400, or maybe even $500 a month student loan payments. Others even maintain the stance that joining the work force directly out of high school is the answer by generating some income without those hairy student loan bills coming in each and every month. It wasn’t after I dove into Liz Addison’s “Two Years Are Better Than Four” that I began to step back and actually think about this on going debate. She begins with a brief story of a guy names Rick Perlstein’s, who’s thought of college, as Americans understand have came to an end. Perlstein’s ideas are based upon the college experience of self-discovery no longer existing as young American’s are prematurely forced into early adulthood; while working, studying and going to school all at the same time is taking away from the true “college experience” and therefor making college not matter like it once had. Addison was quick to correct these allegations as she stated that she herself had attended 2 community colleges where she believes the college experience is still very much alive. She…

To strengthen the Indian Education System, an educational policy was adopted by the Indian Parliament in 1968. Education was made an important and integral part of the national development efforts. After independence there has been an effort to spread education to all levels of Indian society. Statistics point to the fact that 99 per cent of children in age group 6-11 years have been enrolled in school. However, to bring the remaining into the ambit of universal primary education is proving difficult because some reside in inaccessible areas, there is a deep rooted prejudice against educating girls there are practical difficulties of distance and inaccessibility of schools. Moreover, the dropout rate is so high that universal elementary education (UEE) is quite an elusive goal.…

CHAPTER ONE 1.0 INTRODUCTION In an effort to improve universal access to education, the ministry of education made a decision to introduce the re-entry policy. The policy is meant to accord girls who drop out of school owing to early pregnancy an opportunity to be re-admitted six months to one after delivery. This initiative has since scored a number of successes as some girls have gone back to school and successfully completed their secondary education , though some, order the age initially would have done so, Fifth National Development Plan(2006-2010). Before October 13 1997, it was considered an expellable offence for girls who fell pregnant while at school. But the re-introduction of the re-entry policy on that date was a measure and recognition of the importance of addressing gender inequalities in national development and the need to narrow down the gender gap in the education, Ministry of Education (1996). Child pregnancy has been persistent factors in household and hence, the re-entry policy has enabled government and families to recoup the investment made in educating such girls and that the nation has been accorded the much needed educated human resource for national development. 1.2 STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM There has been a marked increase in the Forum for women educationist of Zambia has endeavored to play in the support and sensitization of the re-entry policy in enhancing girl child education in Zambia. However, despite this increase not all have been able to go back to schools. This is a serious omission particularly when a good number of girls can utilize the given opportunity and when concerted effort has been made to enhance girl child education. In addition, all efforts and resources pumped in will go to waste. 1.3 THE PURPOSE OF STUDY The purpose of this study is to find out the role FAWEZA is playing in promoting the reentry policy in enhancing girl child education and to find out the response of the policy by the girl child.…
