The importance of time management. Steps to take to avoid or prevent tardiness.

There are many reasons that time management is important. For example, if your unit was getting ready for deployment, you would need to be at the right place at the right the time, to receive any information you or your fellow soldiers may need to know before you leave. If you weren’t there when you were told to be then you would fall court martial under article 87 in the UCMJ, which is missing movement. Should you miss movement, you could face the possibility of being court martialed for being late or not showing up at all. People have also gone to prison for missing movement. When this happens your entire military career is essentially over. This is only one example, as I go further into this essay I will explain more. The importance of time management even applies to the garrison part of your army career. Your whole army career is all about time management. As recruits in basic training we were taught that you need to be ten minutes prior to the formation. We were taught that anything less than ten or fifteen minutes prior to formation, you were late.
The biggest thing soldiers have a big problem with is making their appointment on time. If you are on a tasking or a detail or even a mission, you need to let your supervisor know about your appointment. When you tell your supervisor or whomever is in charge about your appointment or other tasking that have been assigned to you, actions can be taken so that you can leave with plenty of time to be able to make it to your next place of duty, albeit a medical appointment or any other appointment or tasking that you may have. If you have an appointment on your off time then you have to make sure you are up in a timely manner to make it to your appointment so that way your chain of command will not counsel you for missing or showing up late to an appointment some steps to take in

Punctuality is a very important thing in life. Getting to work on time when you are supposed to, is punctuality. Showing up for a meeting on time is punctuality. Showing up for an appointment on time is punctuality. It is very important to make it on time for work, meetings, formations (ten minutes prior), and appointments. Appointments in this case, are very important to make it to on time. It is best to show up for appointments early. If you leave home early to get to your appointment, it is much less likely you will be held up and become late by traffic or any accidents you may come upon as you drive to your appointment. Missing appointments lets several people down. There are people expecting to see you, you are letting them down. There are people that need to be seen by the people you made an appointment with, you are letting them down by taking up valuable time from a dentist, doctor, optometrist, etc. when they could be there instead of you and having things they need taken care of. In the military, not showing up for an appointment is also letting down your squad leader, your unit, and the whole military organization. It can cost the Army a lot of money to schedule an appointment for you and then have you not show up for it. By missing an appointment, you also show that you lack discipline and responsibility. It does not look good to your leaders and makes it seem like you can not be trusted with simple tasks. Punctuality is a big part of impression and it is very important to make a good impression. When you lack punctuality, it sets a bad example to others, friends, family, as well as other soldiers. If you were not taught in civilian life or learned through having a job, in basic combat training in the military you are certainly taught to show up early and be on time for formations and that should carry over to other aspects of your life, such as appointments. Missing appointments takes away from everyone's very valuable time. There is not excuse for…

Time management can be defined as: "The process of exercising conscious control over how much time to spend on specific activities." It is an issue that is of great importance to many employees across many different sectors of the workforce; many employees struggle with it in a day-to-day basis. The reality of the current work environment, for a lot of employees, is becoming distracted or being taken off task is a very easy thing to do. This decreases productivity for the company that they work for, and often creates a backlog of work for the employee which must be handled quickly. A quick pace of working through assignments and projects may decrease the quality of the work and increase the stress on the employee. Punctuality shows that you are responsible, trustworthy and can follow directions. Punctuality isn't just an order that the Army requires, but also a good personal trait that is a reflection of a person’s character, it shows that you have personal integrity and self-discipline. While some of us are occasionally late due to circumstances beyond our control, habitual tardiness shows a lack of respect for other people and their time. If someone is late continually that shows that they more then likely do not care about what their NCO tells them. Time is a precious gem that should not be wasted at any cost. If you don't use your time wisely, you can never get it back. It is a very special resource in that you cannot store it or save it for later. Promptness is not only a duty, but is also a part of good manners, it is favorable to fortune, reputation, influence, and usefulness. Lack of punctuality is a theft of someone else's time and a complete lack of respect for others. You should be punctual in everything you do. Punctuality goes hand in hand with military discipline. Recruits are taught to obey, immediately and without question, orders from their superiors, right from the day one of boot camp.
