Born into the family of a village school teacher in a small village called Chowrad in Gujarat, India, Dhirubai Ambani is an apt example for the rags to riches story. This dynamic entrepreneur founded Reliance Industries in the year 1958 and Reliance Industries is the first Indian company to be featured in the Forbes 500 list and was also featured among the list of Top 50 businessmen in Asia by Sunday Times.
Dhirubai was a highly precocious student. He made extra money while still at school by selling onion and vegetable fries during village fairs. Unfortunately, he had to discontinue his studies after matriculation as his father became very sick and could not support the family. He left to Aden (now a part of Yemen) to work as a clerk with a firm called A.Besse & Co. He was 16 years then. At Besse, Dhirubai later worked in the commodities section if the firm where he learnt a lot about trading and business. Every night, during his stay at the boarding house with several other Gujarati boys working as clerks, Dhirubai used to spend hours trying to learn and improve his English grammar, essay writing skills, knowledge about current affairs. Jawaharlal Nehru’s the ‘Glimpses of World History’ and the ‘Discovery of India’ were his favourite books. Though he started reading these books as a means to improve his English vocabulary, these books opened to him a whole new world of adventure and human wisdom.
In 1958, he came back to India with a savings of Rs.50,000 to start a commodity trading and export firm with the name Reliance Commercial Corporation. Their first office was set up at the Narsinatha Street in Mumbai which was a 350 sq ft room with a telephone, one table and three chairs. Dhirubai was known to be a great risk taker. With his talent, knowledge about current affairs, keen business acumen and being able to anticipate price rises, Dhirubai was able to generate huge profits for Reliance Commercial Corporation.

Donald Halls’ “A Hundred Thousand Straightened Nails” is a symbolic presentation of the decay of New Hampshire the author uses the life of Washington Woodward to show the pointless existence that is experienced in a place as lifeless as New Hampshire. He uses the contrast of his own opinion and the beliefs of Woodward to show how after a while it is impossible to escape a pointless mindset. Washington finds joy in discarded relics such as old nails, and wood, and finds simple joy in simple life. He settled on life, in his lifeless town and spent his life with his animals, his stories, his beliefs and his box of “A Hundred Thousand Straightened Nails.”(Hall)…

In the Scarlet Letter by Nathaniel Hawthorne, there are three main sinners. They are Hester Prynne, Arthur Dimmesdale, and Roger Chillingworth. These three people all commit terrible sins including revenge, adultery, and murder. Of these sinners, Roger Chillingworth is the guiltiest of them all, and this is because he never felt remorse for the terrible things he did throughout the novel. Chillingworth sins were aimed to bring pain and suffering to others where as Hester's and Dimmesdale's sin was a sin of passion, and was never meant to hurt anyone.…

Macbeth and Banquo share many similar characteristics: they are both courageous and valiant leaders on the battlefield, widely respected by the men they and lead and they are both loyal to the King and patriotic to Scotland. Shakespeare introduces the two men through the Captain who describes their courage and heroic performance in the face of the enemy, ' ...Like Valour's minion carved out his passage / Till he faced the slave... ' (Act 1, Scene 2). Macbeth has killed rebels, captured the traitor, obtained the ransom money for his King and negotiated a peace treaty; he is a ruthless yet honourable man with a capacity for humanity.…

The amount of missing aboriginal women in Canada is something that is not being recognized as the societal tragedy that it is. According to Amnesty International there are "more than 580 cases of missing and murdered Indigenous women in Canada, most within the last three decades. Because of gaps in police and government reporting, the actual numbers may be much higher" (Amnesty, 2014). Violence against aboriginal women is extremely high. "Aboriginal women are murdered at rates 5 and 10 times higher than those of non-aboriginal women" (Henslin, 2010,p.373).…

Once a loss occurs within a family there is always a number of ways the family can get through their pain. A family can choose what role a loss is going to play in their lives. Either they can let the pain subside slowly or quickly get over it and move on, but I do not personally think one can truly accept losing a family member without some sort of grieving process involved. One family may choose denial, and resistance to let a loved one go, while another family may grief together to console one another. Once a family goes through a lose it becomes apparent that it can happen to anyone.…

In this article, I read about the reason why teenagers want to attend college. According to the students, “The primary reason for going to college is to get training and skills that will lead to a job, and let them make money”. I also learned how white and black college students differ and how they handle everyday life situations. The passage also states how mothers handle the concerns of their kids when they go off to college.…

I don’t remember from when I was very little, I remember mostly from, from when my father left. He left when I was about eight, and that’s when I sort of … that’s what I sort of link things back to the most I suppose, to that sort of period of time. My mother was very, very sort of affected by that. She changed a lot when, when he left. And I remember her being sort of quite sort of larking about and playing, quite, quite a playful person. And then when he left she just became really, really down and very, very needy. And I think I sort of, I tried to fill that gap somehow, and, umm fill in for my dad and sort of be, be a grown-up. I sort of…

The Birth of Pioneer: Jamshetji Nusserwanji Tata: was born to Nusserwanji and Jeevanbai Tata on 3 March 1839 in Navsari, a small town in South Gujarat. Nusserwanji Tata was the first businessman in a family of Parsi Zoroastrian priests. He moved to Bombay and started trading. Jamshetji joined his father in Bombay at the age of 14 and enrolled at the Elphinstone College. He was married to HirabaiDaboo while he was still a student. He graduated from college in 1858 and joined his father 's trading firm. It was a turbulent time to step into business as the Indian Rebellion of 1857 had just been suppressed by the British government. Jamshedji worked in his father 's until the age of 29. In 1868, he started a trading company with a seed capital of Rs. 21,000. In 1869, he acquired a bankrupt oil mill in Chinchpokli, converted it into a cotton mill and renamed the mill Alexandra Mill. He sold the mill two years later for a healthy profit. Thereafter he set up a cotton mill in Nagpur in 1874. He christened it Empress Mill on 1 January 1877 when Victoria was proclaimed Empress of India. He devoted himself to bringing to fruition four of his key ideas: setting up an iron and steel company, a world-class learning institution, a one-of-a-kind hotel and a hydro-electric plant. “We do not claim to be more unselfish, more generous or more philanthropic than other people.
