Erin Brocovich Movie Response
Reflection
After watching the movie Erin Brockovich and reading the article “Dressing Sexy at Work: When Too Little is Too Much” I have come to the conclusion that the way you dress in the workplace has a strong reflection of who you are as a person. If you dress provocatively it sends off the message that you are not professional and intelligent.
The way you present yourself is very important, in today’s society you are judged on your appearance, so if you show a lot of skin in the workplace it makes those around you feel uncomfortable. In the movie Erin Brockovich, Erin dresses inappropriately for the workplace and it effects how her coworkers treat her. The other women she works with don’t include her in extra work activities or lunches, I believe this is because she sends of the message she’s better than everyone else just because of the way she presents herself. Jealousy is also a key point in the exclusion of Erin.
I do believe that the way you dress should play a role in the job you are given or not given because if you feel the need to wear revealing clothing in a professional work environment then you shouldn’t be in that type of work, and if you choose to dress professional and classy then yes, that is the right type of job for you. The way you dress at work says a lot about how you are as a person, and your clothing should show that you are mature, and responsible, you should not be showing a lot of skin

How an individual dresses impacts how he or she is perceived in the eyes of others. Discrimination in the workplace doesn’t just affect those who are being discriminated, it also affects the employer/ business. Assuming that the employer wants to be as successful as possible, they will need to be efficient. In order to be efficient you need to have good and reliable employees. This is when it comes down to the hiring process and whether or not you hire based on looks or actual talent (equally). Just because you hire someone who is physically attractive, doesn’t mean they will be good workers and have beneficial effects on your business. Appearance doesn’t mean everything and that is why we have these laws such as Title VII and the Equal Pay Act to protect those who are actually talented, but may not have the right/ best looks to show for it. By overlooking the less desirable looking candidates, you could potentially be missing out on the businesses’ potential profits. That’s not to say though that people who are physically attractive aren’t valuable workers. If physical attractiveness is the only thing you look for, you have less likely of a chance of hiring someone who could be doing positive things for your business, and sooner or later these actions could come back to bite your business in the butt. Physical appearance conveys much about a candidate’s personality and professionalism, so you should dress in a manner that makes a good first impression in an interview. A good guideline is to dress conservatively. Men, for instance, should avoid casual clothes such as khakis and polo shirts. Instead—even if for what seems to be a company with a casual work…

Appearance and presentation has involved itself in society too much. If certain people in society don't like an appearance or a first impression on specific people, then that person usually is not spoken to or acknowledged too often. As a behavioral health rehabilitation specialist I have found that I dress very comfortably because my clients and I are continuously doing activities that require a lot of activities or crafts as it allows me to mingle with the children. I wear a Polo that represents my name and title so that I am not seen as an average adult with a bunch of children. I keep a strong and fun attitude but always professional. When the time comes and I have an office of my own, I will always carry myself with professionalism however I am not sure of the attire yet as I remember how I felt as a client walking into an office that I felt I was very beneath and walked out of feeling even more ashamed of being in the parking lot. This feeling is not how I want any of my clients to feel. I think you can be good at what you do despite what you…

In the society we all live in today, your outside beauty is focused on more than your inner beauty. Many businesses have realized how to apply these views to their own benefit. They have focused on trends and realized it is more profitable to hire those with good looks. However, since many popular businesses are only hiring certain ethnicities, body types, and genders in order to project the company image, it has been questioned if these companies are just discriminating against people. In this article “Going for the Look, but Risking Discrimination” by Steven Greenhouse from the New York times it says “hiring attractive people is not necessarily illegal, but discriminating on the basis of age, sex, and ethnicity is.” Most companies claim…

Let women and men wear whatever they like. And both men and women need to take account for their actions. Just because someone may dress in a provocative manner (male or female) does not mean that they are free game and especially that they want anything to do with you. Again, some just like the attention. Others will claim that dressing in a provocative manner is simply fashion. Some will say it is because it is hot outside. Rarely will anyone admit that it is because they think they look good, are showing off, and want / need the attention that provocative dress…

Appearance is very important. Your clothes should be suitable for the situation. For example, if you wear casual clothes in a meeting with your partners, they will think that you are not serious about working with them, or you don’t respect them. Besides, clothes can demonstrate your characteristic. People often like the one with neat clothes than a sloven one.…
