Equalizing oneself with others is the ability to feel that we are all the same in our search for happiness and wanting to alleviate our state of suffering. We come to a place where we can truly feel that we are no different than others. Although we feel that we are all one and of the same, we still feel we can still feel closer to some people (such as family) and have a stronger aversion for others (those who have harmed us). In reality this is not so. "All sentient Beings" and "Equanimity " means no one should be singled out. Immeasurable equanimity is not only the ability to view others as equal to oneself, its mind set is much deeper . It is the ultimate quality of treating others in the right and ideal way regardless of the situation we find ourselves in. In this view we develop the feeling of equal emotion regarding others. This type of equanimity is called" immeasurable" because the capacity to purify the heart and generate positive energy is beyond measure. Developing this quality requires that one transforms their delusions, self-centredness, feelings of hostility or attachments towards others. Immeasurable equanimity opens the heart. It is not a feeling of neutrality or indifference. By the continuous practice of freeing ourselves from attachment (self-centered desires) and aversion (hatred/hostility) , a love that embraces all sentient beings and circumstances equally with wisdom is possible. This type of love is balanced and impartial. All prejudices, attachments, aversions, uncaring indifferences, anger or hostility are dissolved and non-existent in this state of mind. It is the kind of mind state that is required to truly exchange and equalize ourselves with others. By developing this state of mind, we free ourselves from reactions to unfavourable circumstances and reduce various forms of undesirable responses towards others.
