Buddhism is based on the teachings of Siddhartha Gautama, he received the name Buddha when he became enlightened and discovered the truth about life and suffering. It is a religion about why we suffer and how we can get rid of it. A spiritual goal for Buddhists is to reach nirvana, the most enlightened and blissful state that one can achieve because there is no suffering in nirvana.

Unlike most religions, there is no divine power being worshipped, he was just a teacher that wanted to share with others how they can get rid of their own suffering and reach nirvana. Buddha had no relation with god whatsoever, the relationship between him, his disciples, and his followers are that of a teacher and student. Buddha was just a normal person who went around teaching others how they could reach enlightenment like he has.
