There are several factors to consider when developing an effective strategic plan. Healthcare Systems and organizations should assess their external environment to be able to identify opportunities to strengthen. An assessment would show Carolinas Healthcare System their threats and competition to allow future success. A firm’s external environment has a major influence on the direction of the company, the actions, and its organizational structure. In this paper, Carolinas Healthcare System (CHS) will assess the external factors that will affect the success of the company. A macroeconomic forecast of economic indicators from the external remote environment will be assessed. Next, the non-economic factors will be analyzed. Third, using Porters five forces, CHS will develop an evaluation of the projected future forces and trends in the industry. Fourth, they will evaluate the external operating environment and present a competitive assessment. Last, with consideration of all of the external findings the top three strategic opportunities will be developed for long term objectives.
