English Argument Essay 1 1
No Boys Allowed Distractions happen in the classroom all the time for kids and cause them to be unable to finish an assignment and will not pay attention in class. And I believe a big part of that is having co-educational classes instead of single-sex or same-sex classes. I really feel that this happens more to middle school students than any other grade level because in middle school you’re meeting new people so you’re going to be shy around them and won’t want to participate in class. My younger sister is in 6th grade at Monroe County Middle School and she always talks about how she doesn’t like to participate in class because, “all the boys stare at her,” and I believe this causes her not to pay attention in class. But if we started having single sex classes I really do believe students would be more open to participating in class and paying attention because they will not feel overpowered by the opposite sex.
Single-sex classes truly do eliminate the distractions that surround the opposite sex. Whether it’s their looks or the way they act. I do believe for girls it’s not wanting to look dumb or ridiculous in front of the boys because girls are really sensitive and hate to be made fun of and boys do not care to say what comes to their mind or want to look “cool” in front of their friends to impress the girls. According to the article, “Same sex schools may still have a chance” by Kathleen Vail, same-sex schools and classes eliminate the distraction and allow teachers to accommodate boys’ and girls’ supposedly different learning styles. I do believe this is true because my 6th grade year I had an all-girls P.E. class and I wasn’t afraid to participate in the games compared to my 7th and 8th grade year. Jill Rojas, the former principle at Jefferson Leadership Academies, states, “The students are more focused on what’s going on.” This is because the distraction has been eliminated.
Single-sex classes offer a lot of things co-educational classes don’t. They

The idea of single-sex classrooms are to prevent these distractions in the classroom to improve the percentage of passing, and it has. But is this idea of single sex classes a violation to the basic rights of the students? The students should be able to decide whether or not they would want to be apart of this idea of separating boys and girls. Unlike “Marita's Bargain” with the dance competition where it had boy and girls interacting with each other much more than when in the classrooms, dancing, and with this the children became very successful students that carried on through…

Boys and girls should not be in the same in the same class because they talk too much. They should be engaged in the lesson and not each other. The point of coming to school is to learn not talk and socialize. Boys and girls being in the same class is not going to help them learn. It is a distraction We do not need any more distractions in the classroom because we already have enough. Separating them helps with solving the problem.…

All students will eventually live and work side by side with the opposite gender, so, why work away from them in school? Those in single gender schools would have a difficult time transitioning into a working environment with the opposite gender. They didn't have opportunities in school to develop social skills and relationships. The students also have a limited amount opportunities to work together cooperatively and coexist successfully with the opposite gender. Having the ability to communicate with the opposite gender will be important in the future. Next, boys who are friends with girls tend to be more comfortable around women in the future. If men are more comfortable around girls than they tend to believe more in women's rights and equality. If we have more men who believe in equal rights for everyone than there could be a lot changes, like changing the wage gap. According to research by the Institute of Education in London, men who went to single gender schools are not only more likely to get a divorce but, more likely to fall into depression. Women's marriages were not affected by the school they went to. Men are going to be more likely to fall into depression because of the stress of finding a happy life. It is very clear that single gender schools are a nuisance in the future of boys. Now last but not least, people need to teach our generation how to respect others for the…

In recent years, there has been an increased interest in single-sex education. Many people have begun to voice their opinion on the matter, some believing it is beneficial, and others arguing it is disadvantageous. The author gives multiple arguments supporting the notion of a single-sex schooling environment. She gives evidence stating that girls and boys learn differently, and that single-sex classrooms allow each gender to thrive without distraction. The author also acknowledges the many arguments against single-sex…

In conclusion, I believe the greatest benefit to gender-segregated classrooms appears to be the subsequent effect on behavior and self-esteem. Across the board, girls showed in improved rate of self esteem and confidence while boys displayed greater behavioral skills and discipline. This in itself would be cause enough to implement more single-sex classrooms in public schools.…

While I am in a class with both genders there is a lot of dating in the class. The boy would try to show off to a certain girl to only find himself making a foolish look or weird pose. The girl, on the other hand would stare off at that boy until someone noticed her or he saw her. Trust me his look would be very grossed out. So the common kid would be hurt if we were in a mixed gendered school.…

Many people might say the single sex schools are ineffective, because girls and boys need to know how to communicate with the opposite sex. They should be enforced to help children reach their full dreams without the thought of humility standing in their way. School is a place where students get acquainted with the basics of the life, which further helps them to foster their proficiency level in different aspects of life required in this competitive world, and the most important part of school is not where students get time to socialize with each other. Although Co-ed schools are a first choice for most adolescents and their parents, Single sex schools are equally good. In single sex schools, students don't have to worry about sexual attraction of the opposite sex. This enables the students to concentrate more in their studies and less on socialization, or any other social situations.…

One of the biggest reasons for same-sex schools is that boys tend to think and learn differently than girls. Nick Szymanis from Kwong’s article claims, “ If I go to a coed classroom in grades 2 or 3, girls’ hands are going to shoot up first, they have that foundational literacy. The boys push back early, feel they can do it and lose interest.” Same-sex schools and classrooms are also said to improve girls’ skills in science (since the boys usually do the experiments while the girls write down the data), and boys’ skills in math and reading. They quicken boys’ maturing level, and take away the need to impress girls. Unlike coed schools, same-sex schools have different learning environments, “from the blue chalkboards in the boy classrooms, to the red paper hearts that decorated the wall of one of the girl’s classrooms”(Bonner and Hollingsworth). With the suited environments, the children tend to learn and think better. According to Kwong, “Students in all-girls schools had a ‘higher academic self-concept’ than girls in coed schools when it came to self-reporting proficiency in maths and sciences.”…

Some studies have shown that both male and female students who have been educated in single-sex environments have a stronger preference for subjects that are stereotypically aligned with the opposite sex. Teachers also may treat girls differently from boys in math, science, and computer related classes, giving them less attention and fewer learning opportunities. This kind of favoritism would be impossible in a single-sex classroom (Education Bug, 2011, p.1).…

Both genders’ conduct is often different when it's time to study. Girls naturally tend to talk a lot during classes, and boys usually tend to be much more active and troubled, so they start to fight or talk to each other while the teacher is talking. Therefore, the students don’t pay attention to the classroom rules, classes are completely disorganized, and also students could start to be aggressive and rebels in class or even at home. Separating boys and girls make teachers to have their classes completely organized, and their students concentrated listening to them. For example, Ms. Thompson is a teacher, she have been working for fifteen years at Marlborough school, in California, she approves the separate education for boys and girls, despite the fact that work with girls can be very tiring. Her students are obedient and her classes are very tidy, girls always help to keep the class this way. According to her, students just want attention and they want to be heard all the time, so she tries to use games that make them feel appreciated. Parents feel some way this methods motivates their girls to be well behaved so that applications for the school are full this…
