1. Write a summary of Flight
The short story "Flight" is written by Alice Hoffman is about a Eugene, Jason and Jason's sister who is the narrator. They hate the town they're living in. The narrator basically hates everything in the town and things that are associated with the town. A thing she isn't alone about, Eugene feels the same way. They have some dreams that they can't do because of the situation with their town. They both want to get into And because of that Eugene and the narrator have made a plan to get out of the prison of a town. But to do this, they need money which they'll get by selling term papers. But at the end they get relieved at selling them at the school. And therefore their dreams isn’t getting realised and they suffer a major disappointment.
2. Characterize the narrator of the story
The narrator is one of the maincharaters in the story. She is a black-haired teenage girl who is attending high-school and lives with her mother and brother after the husband moved out. She has a brother called Jason, who is a very important man to her. She somehow looks up to her brother but her brother friend Eugene also have a big effect at her - she is easily manipulated by almost everything that Eugene does. The narrator really hates the town which she lives in and she is dreaming about leaving the town.She is a very naive girl and maybe a bit in love with Eugene. She doesn't have a problem about being handed more tasks than him and doesn't care that he took all the money.
3. Comment on the similarities and differences between Eugene and Jason
Jason and Eugene are described as opposites. Jason is doing everything by the rules, and might be a "boring" type of guy. He is a nerd in school and want to do good in school. He also spends a lot of time with his science experiment with hamsters in cages.
Eugene is another type of guy. He is breaking the rules by doing buisness who is illegal. He also fools the narrator so she have to write more tasks than Eugene has. He is a very selfish person. Eugene also has a wild owl instead of a hamster in a cage. They’re dreaming about going to Harward.

Connie is fifteen years old and obviously self-conscious because of the love that she never receives at home. Her whole life revolves around attention from boys since she does not feel loved at home. Oates chooses narrate her story in the third person giving us a glimpse in to Connie’s thoughts, her lonely isolation form her family, and her daydreams of boys and love songs. Connie’s negative, always nagging mother makes her fear growing up and being miserable too. Greg Johnson interprets the story as “a cautionary tale, suggesting that young women are ‘going’ exactly where their mothers and grandmothers have already ‘been‘” (166). One of Connie’s foreshadowing daydreams brings to light ominous events to come: “Connie wished her mother was dead and she herself was dead and it was all over” (153).
