More and more immigrants are willing to work substandard labor positions in agriculture and meat packing plants. These are hard labor jobs and often seasonal. They often provide false identification or are not screened adequately by employers. Many Americans complain because unions were developed to raise the standards of work conditions and yet these illegal workers become under that radar.…
The migration population faces an enormity risk, which many are willing to face to an opportunity of the American dream. The risks of migration, to start before they leave the country many of them have to sell what little they have or acquire more debt to travel. Migrates may travel with smugglers, or by themselves. Smugglers services are very expensive for many of them migrants, in the majority of the cases traveling with smugglers is not a guaranty that they won't be kidnapped, robbed, raped, left behind or death. While traveling, they face death on the tracks of the train The Beast ( La Bestia); many migrate get on, or they face the heat of desserts. For the ones that do complete their journey arriving at the U.S they or have to work hiding their legal status to provide their families with a better quality of…
To understand why large corporations should have an influence on U.S. immigration policy, one must consider the magnitude of their impact on the U.S. economy. U.S. GDP constituted approximately of 7% government expenditures, 17% net exports, 17% business spending and 60% personal consumption. Of these four main components, large corporations play a role in three of them. First, let’s look at personal consumption. Personal consumption is divided into two categories: durable and nondurable goods. Durable goods include cars and house appliances, while nondurable goods include clothes, fuel, and food. From personal consumption, alone, large corporations play a large part in this component, since they undoubtedly are the main providers of these…
If an immigrant has trouble speaking the language it could be difficult to communicate their wants and needs in life and on the job. If they order the wrong meal it could be dangerous if they are allergic to certain foods. If they do not understand the news or cannot read the newspaper, they may find it hard to seek out individuals who have the same beliefs or traditions. For example, this weekend in San Francisco, there is a grand parade for Chinese New Year. If an immigrant from China had moved to Modesto this weekend and could not speak or read English, they may not have know of this event or be able to find their way to the event. Learning a new language is difficult and can be overwhelming. It may take some time to learn the language before being able to communicate…
Many of the unauthorized and uninsured immigrants do work in dangerous and high risk environments. In that case, there are high chances…
First, Brannon, I. & Albright, L. (2016) announce that the state of Texas is the second-biggest state in the union both in population and economic behind Alaska. Both legal and illegal immigrants entering the state each year than any other state. To understand how immigration affects the Texas economy is important not just for Texans but also for the rest of the country. In addition, Khimm, S. (2011) discuss that in a study last year, University of California, Davis economist Giovanni Peri found that immigration — both legal and illegal — had a short-term negative impact on employment and average income rates of native-born workers. But in the longer term, Peri concludes, “immigration unambiguously improves employment, productivity, and…
For some first-generation immigrants, they tend to fill these jobs because due to their situations, it’s the only thing they really can accommodate to; but for the other immigrants, for example my father, they wouldn’t even consider filling these jobs because of their educational level. The majority of the immigrants coming from Latin America are well educated with some type of degree. Take Ricardo D. Sanchez as an example, he came as an undocumented immigrant, who just happens to be from Mexico in this case, in search for a better paying job to support his family. Just to note, he has never raped anyone, smuggled drugs or any other type of prohibited item. He now is an entrepreneur, a software engineer, and is working on a book about his immigration experience. My father, was born and raised in Mexico, he studied five years a prestigious university in Mexico and came as an immigrant to the United States in 2006 for the same reason as Ricardo; to find a better paying job to support his family. All in all, most undocumented immigrants that travel to this country are honest, hard-working people that have come in search of a better…
Illegal immigrants are helpful in another way to the Texas economy. Many illegal immigrants are willing to work for low wages in contrast to natural born citizens whom would most likely require higher pay for the same job.…
The legal issues in this case are: there is anywhere from twelve to twenty million illegal immigrants residing in the United States illegally. As far as the ethical issues in this case, well there are so many issues I wouldn’t even know where to begin. The fact that any business would intentionally make their working environment and so poor knowing that only illegal immigrants would tolerate working there without reporting it to any agency or the legal system is beyond unethical! Now that the legal system only requires employers to use the “E-Verify” system rather than making any illegal immigrant/person provide hard copies of their citizenship. Proof of legal status can now be passed off with false names that are given to employers make our government act irresponsible which causes them to not act ethical. The information that the person provides the employer may check out in the system but in reality is not legit; and is often overlooked because it can be without consequences to the businesses. Any business that would “depress” wages so low that it causes the people who legally reside in the United States to take a huge decrease in pay because illegal immigrants that “check out” or not… are willing to work for a lot less than what the company previously paid out in salary by “overlooking” the fact that they are really just paying lower wages to undocumented workers and taking jobs from legal citizens is unethical and just bad business in respect to our US economy. In 1986 by the law allowing the proposed immigrants legal status in our country while promising that there would be tighter border patrol that would stop the flow of undocumented workers when in turn the illegal immigrant population rose from three million to twelve (or up to twenty) million is entirely unethical especially on our country’s law enforcement and laws as a whole. The federal government has acted unethical by not taking action to stem…
Texas has a reputation throughout history of differing views from the federal government in laws and politics pertaining to social, fiscal, and educational issues. On the whole, Texas operates as a largely conservative state. Because of this, policy-making is often right wing. With the institution of a Democratic, liberal president, the State’s dissent from the Federal government has only increased over certain issues. One hot topic of the 2012 Presidential election was immigration. With the major increase in immigration, it is no surprise that the issue was so emphasized. Between 2000 and 2011 there was a 30 percent increase in the foreign-born population. The immigrant population grew from 31.1 million to 40.04 million. (americanprogress.org) Texas has a special interest in this subject due to the fact that they have a population of over 4 million immigrants. Texas is among the top three states with foreign born individuals living within its borders, giving the state a vested interest in the nation’s immigration policy. (Orrenius et al., 1)…
There is close to 40 million immigrants and about half of them are originally from Mexico. One Third of the immigrants have no high school diploma.…
Like most states, Texas faces a host of problems; that stem from both cultural and environment issues, but unlike most states Texas is a state that shares a 1,254-mile long border with Mexico, a country that has their massive problems. Geography alone has provided Texas with problems that are difficult in the best of times, but in this age of a huge drug problem in the United States along with the rise of international terrorism, those problems have grown exponentially. While it is easy to sit back in the United States and spout out rhetoric claiming that all immigrants should be wholly welcomed, the situation is much different when it is as up and close and personal as it is in Texas.…
Every year thousands of people choose to leave their home country and come to the United States to start a new life. They dream of freedom and endless possibilities that they would never have in their home countries. Unfortunately, there are those who chose to disregard the law and come to this country illegally. It is estimated that there are 20 million illegal immigrants in the U.S. today. Illegal immigration affects our country in many ways. The cost of illegal immigration effects many aspects of our economy. One way in which our economy is affected is when an illegal immigrant is injured or sick and must go to the hospital. They often do not have the money to pay the bill, and the hospitals…
Working in the Hospitality Industry currently, this topic is well known to me. I see it every day in the various restaurants we own and also within our headquarters where we organize, plan, create and cook the food we are delivering at events. Although, my company does not hire any persons without a Green Card or who is an illegal immigrant, there are definitely illegal immigrants working at restaurants throughout the city. I do not support illegal immigrants simply because they are not paying taxes and my taxes are being used towards them when they themselves aren’t paying any taxes. However, I am glad they are not poor, hungry and on the street. I think it should be mandatory for background checks to be done for all employees at any given company. It’s cheating the system to hire an illegal immigrant to work at an organization. The employer isn’t paying taxes on these individuals and that in itself is fraudulent. The profits the company makes from hiring an illegal immigrant at low wages, isn’t worth what they are going to have to pay once they are convicted, prosecuted and fined for employing an illegal alien.…
Undocumented immigrants often fill these jobs while being underpaid by the employer, so the company and CEOs win. Since undocumented immigrants are not in the system they cannot collect any income tax or go to the hospital and take advantage of our free health care. Income to undocumented immigrants is still taxed, but they do not see any of it’s benefits. They are too afraid to report crimes because of the threat of deportation, so now perpetrators of crime win. They do not form unions, report workplace injuries, get driver’s licences, or open bank accounts. In the end it is the system that gains tremendously from the work of immigrants that they have no responsibility over in providing health care or legal representation when businesses take advantage of…
