Andrew Carnegie used vertical integration in his steel business to reduce competition and make an amazing profit. The operation he used to control every step of the process was mining the ore, mining the coal, shipping to foundry and actually making the steel from the ore, etc. Andrew thought about the process and the development of vertical integration. He used his ideas to his own improvement and he maintained the steel mills but also maintained areas like railways and even coal fields. He arranged for his money to be paid to another one of his businesses. He kept the money in the family, to prevent other companies from putting the “screws” to him and cutting availability and raising his prices. For example, railroads and shipping businesses would be strong competitors but for others because they would all have his business. This facilitated Andrew to vend to other consumers.…

According to the Office of the Secrety to the Governor General, the insignia of the Order is a stylized six point snowflake, with a red centre bearing a stylized maple leaf. The motto surrounding the maple leaf is “DESIDERANTES MELIOREM PATRIAM”, which translates to “They desire a better country”(The Office of the Secretary to the Governor General). On the top, the red centre is finished with the Royal Crown. The entire medal is composed…

The main role of a teacher/trainer should be to teach in a way which engages learners and actively engage learning during every lesson irrespective of the environment. In my position as IT manager at Barnsley College there are roles and responsibilities that are set to facilitate personal and organisational goals the same can be said for teaching and learning. As a teacher/trainer I will need to be able to adapt my style of teaching by being a friend, counsellor, mentor to ensure that my learners are able to rely on me to meet their individual learning needs. To this end I have the role of assessor, most learners have different learning needs and it is my job to identify these needs as part of the teaching and learning cycle to ensure my students get the best experience of learning possible. I will need to have the skills to promote equality and diversity and inclusion in the classroom. Initial assessments will help me to identify my learners needs which could include poor hand writing, poor reading skills, or any disability that is a barrier to the individuals learning need, A diagnostic test will be carried out to identify individual learner needs and if any further support is required this will then form the root of the individual learning plan. By doing the initial and diagnostic tests this will enable me as the trainer to understand how to apply the different assessment methods to meet the needs of the individual student which in turn may increase the motivation of the student and give me the confidence to deliver the training. Assessing the learners needs skills and knowledge will help to identify any areas that may need to be referred or where advice and guidance can be given to support learners to achieve.…

Should everyone get a participation trophy? According to the "trophy's for all" policy, youth athletes are being awarded trophys for participating in a sport. Trophy's shouldn’t be given to everyone. Participation trophy's lose their meanings at times. People don’t get promotions for just showing up. On the other hand parents and coaches think that participation trophy's are motivating to youth athletes. Handing out trophies is a waste of time if youth athletes are not going to put in the effort to at least earn the trophy.…

In the article titled “Why Some Critics Don’t Think Caitlyn Jenner Deserved the Arthur Ashe Courage Award”, writer Justin Wm. Moyer from the Washington Post discusses the criticisms that have come with ESPN’s decision to give Caitlyn Jenner the prestigious award which symbolizes courage. Moyer writes about the doubters who don’t believe that what Caitlyn Jenner did by publicly coming out as transgender constitutes as “courageous”. He also references those who believe that Lauren Hill, a 19-year-old college basketball player who recently passed away with cancer, would have been a better candidate to receive the award. Although he points out the many doubters and their negative reactions, it seems as though he falls on the other side of the…

BACKGROUND PAPER ON SGT MAYNARD SMITH 1. When you hear about the Medal of Honor, do you know why it is given? Do you as a military member know what a member must go through to receive such an honor? Sadly, a lot of military members don’t realize what a prestigious award this is. My intention today is to share with you what the Medal of Honor is. Also, I am going to tell you about Sgt. Maynard Smith who received a Medal of Honor in World War II, due to his bravery and loyalty to his fellow crewmembers. 2. First, I will start by giving you some background information on the Medal of Honor. In our country’s early history there were special awards voted by Congress for special contributions with the first awarded to George Washington in 1776. However, many felt that whatever actions were performed in the service on one’s country to be a common duty. The Civil War changed many perceptions in that regard. Originally authorized by congress in 1861, it’s sometimes called the “Congressional Medal of Honor.” Although the proper name of the award is the Medal of Honor, it is due to the fact that it was established by an act of Congress that most erroneously refer to it as the “Congressional Medal of Honor.” In the 136 years that the Medal of Honor has been established a total of 3,428 medals have been awarded. Twenty of these medals have been awarded to a recipient twice. The Medal of Honor (www.af.mil/heritage) is awarded to military members, while on active duty, that have gone beyond the call of duty, and have had enough courage to risk their own lives. The Medal of Honor is a bronze, five star hanging from a bronze bar with the single word, “Valor”. All recommendations for this decoration must be proven incontestably for acts of bravery that are so outstanding that it is proven to be gallantry beyond the call of duty, self-sacrifice, risk of life, and will not leave any grounds for criticism or censure. Whatever deed was accomplished must also have incontestable evidence…
