Introduction:
Nowadays in a transition economy in which Serbia currently is, Serbian companies started introducing and applying generally accepted HR tools that are already used into developed countries since they want to move towards free market economy. Never the less, a HRM becomes in Serbian companies a institutional pattern of behavior regardless of maturity, size, ownership of company or industrial sector. It must be kept in mind that not long time ago, in Serbian companies word Human resource was primarily focused on administrative issues and was undeveloped, as it used to be in all ex social countries (Zupan & Kase, 2005).
Moving on, in a research done in two companies, Monent D.O.O. Paracin that is doing coffee importing, distribution and production; and Transkop D.O.O. that is doing road construction and transportations, both of them state that HR has a crucial rule in their business. Further more, since most of the practices that are introduced into Serbian companies are north American practices, it will be interesting, to which extend they can be adopted in Serbian companies, first of all because of cultural difference. Never the less, it should be stated as well that in transition economies, most of personnel was not involved into decision making process and was not considered as important factor in companies’ strategy and development (Tung & Havlovic, 1996). Coming back on present time, and to the interviews done, both companies agree that: “Good working atmosphere, and friendly relationship among workers in different sectors, and correct and good relationship among employees and managers are creating a climate of good working atmosphere and accomplishment of aim that an employee is mail cell of enterprising and with that role, important factor in productivity of enterprise”. By this statement it can be seen that time is changing and that Serbian companies are starting to value their employees.
