Emerging effects of regional climate changes on socio-economic activities in Benin City: Impacts, Adaptations, and Vulnerability.
This article is a study of the risks of disastrous climate impacts on the socio-economic activities. It review areas vulnerable to flooding as a direct consequence of climate change and analyze the surge of environmental refugees and disruption of traditional livelihoods.

Emerging effects of regional climate changes on socio-economic activities in Benin City: Impacts, Adaptations, and Vulnerability.
INTRODUCTION
In a review of natural disasters from 1945 – 1986, Glickman, Golding and Silverman (1992) made a number of observations. The study revealed among other things that small magnitude disasters has increased and large event disasters are steady, that the most vulnerable are the developing world. These disasters were mostly meteorological in origin – urban and riverine flood, hurricanes, typhoons etc. recent years shows similar patterns (UNEP 1991). The study revealed that while the events are steady, the magnitude of their impact is increasing. The tendency of natural events to adversely affect a city is greater now than in the past.
Estimation of impacts of climate change has long been a challenge for Integrated Assessment Model (IAM) (J. Smith 104).
Understanding the path of global warming impacts is very important.
First, the appropriate level of mitigation over time depends on the path of damages. Abatement cost needs to be balanced against the stream of aggregate damages (Nordhaus 1991.)
Second, countries may be interested in learning which sectors are vulnerable to climate damage and when in other to determine what adaptations are worthwhile.
