Are you a parent or someone that is always around a child as they are growing up? Are they always being pushed to learn and not play like you did as a child? Now a day, children are being pushed way to hard to be “smarter than their peers.” The message to all parents is that, there is no longer sufficient way for infants and toddlers to learn independently as they have for millennia through their own curiosity and a little help from their family members when teaching opportunities arise, (Hirsh-Pasek, Golinkoff, & Eyer, 2003). One survey shows that 65% of parents believe that flash cards are “very effective” in helping 2 year olds develop their intellectual capacity. Also more than a third of parents surveyed believe that playing Mozart to their infants enhances brain development,” (Hirsh-Pasek, Golinkoff, & Eyer, 2003). After reading the book, Einstein Never Used Flash Cards written by Kathy Hirsh-Pasek, Roberta Michnick Golinkoff and Diane Eyer, I have a different outlook on the book. Since all the authors are credible and give reliable sources, I trust their information and knowledge.
Authors
Kathy Hirch-Pasek has She has received her bachelor’s degree from University of Pittsburgh and her PhD from the University of Pennsylvania (Hirsh-Pasek, Golinkoff, & Eyer, 2003). Now she is a professor at Temple University where she has conducted an experiment called “Infant Language.” The “Infant Language” experiment she conducted studied the development of children from two months to ten years old (Hirsh-Pasek, Golinkoff, & Eyer, 2003). She has received the “American Psychological Association’s Brofenbrenner Award for Lifetime Contribution of Developmental Psychology in the Service of Science and Society” ,“The American Psychogical Association’s Award for Distinguished Service to Psychological Science” , “Temple’s University Great Teacher Award” and the “University Eberman Research Award.” From that experience she has found and witnessed the development of children

    The kids can learn how to crawl and stand up by 12 months old. At the age of 24 months, the children begin to run, know how to kick a ball and walk around. From when they were born until 2 years old, the children are in the famous developmental stage that the researcher Jean Piaget called the sensorimotor period. Language developmental changes will occur during these crucial years of life. The newborns tend to pay attention at the facial expressions to understand what is being communicated to them.
