DESIGN OF THE EIFFEL TOWER
General purpose: To inform
Specific Purpose: To inform my audience about the considerations in the Eiffel Tower design. Central Idea/ Thesis Statement:
The considerations in Eiffel tower design divided into three elements that are material, wind considerations, and artistic considerations.
Attention gather:“Being the most striking manifestation of the art of metal structures by which our engineers have shown in Europe, it is one of the most remarkable of our modern national genius” so said by Gustave Eiffel in the his book Tour of Eiffel (1902). Tie to the audience: Gustave Eiffel was referring to the Eiffel tower, his new marvel created, as the entrance arch to the 1889 World's Fair Credibility: Although have not yet reach there, I have been interested seen Eiffel tower design at television; mostly it takes as shot of in many Hollywood films. Preview: Today, I would like to inform you about the considerations that been taken for the Eiffel Tower design that is material, wind considerations, and artistic considerations
(Transition: First of all, we start with considerations element in material)
I. Basic considerations that been taken is material of the tower. A. The metal structure of the Eiffel Tower weighs 7,300 tonnes while the entire structure, including non-metal components, is approximately 10,000 tonnes. B. Depending on the ambient temperature, the top of the tower may shift away from the sun by up to 18 cm (7.1 in) because of thermal expansion of the metal on the side facing the sun. C. To protect the tower from rust, maintenance of the tower includes applying 50 to 60 tonnes of paint every seven years been done. (Transition: Now, you know about material as basic element for the tower. Next, we proceed to next element, wind consideration)
II. The tower also been completed by taking wind consideration. A. The engineers give wind resistance as primary...
