Effects of Television on our brain
Many of us believe watching TV is a harmless entertaining activity but in reality it is not. Television has many affects on your brain. We do not realize it because when we watch TV our brain goes into a blank state and we forget about everything else. We get attached to the characters and we get stuck in a fantasy world while we fill our minds of garbage and we affect our health and bodies. When you watch TV your mind seems to block everything out like if you were hypnotize and you just focus on what you are watching. Viewers become relaxed, less alert and more passive. The state is comparable to hypnosis. The lowered alertness and feelings of passivity does not end after viewers turn the TV off. The culprit for this effect is most likely the cathode ray tubes in the TV monitors, which can produce a flicker that the conscious mind does not detect. According to a Scientific American study, “survey participants commonly reflect that television has somehow absorbed or sucked out their energy, leaving them depleted. They say they have more difficulty concentrating after viewing television than before. According to free self improvement, tips, advice and ideas, when you watch TV, your brain activity switches from the left side, which is responsible for logical thought and critical analysis to the right side. This is important because the right side of your brain does not analyze incoming information. Instead it uses an emotional response to analyze the information. The right side emotional activity of your brain triggers your brain, to release chemicals to make you feel good. This feeling can get you to become addicted to television. This ensures constant daily exposure which can keep you hooked for life. Another disadvantage is that TV sends bad messages to people.
