Effects of Technology Essay: Cellular Telephones
Technology has grown incredibly since electricity was first invented. We want whatever we can get given to us as fast as possible. With this, came better televisions, computers, and telephones. All of these items can be in a home, a car, or both. What is even more amazing is that one telephone, the iPhone, by Apple, can do all of the above. Telephones have come a long way from being a communication source to a personal computer. Cellular telephones have given a breakthrough in communication as well as an endless source of information.
Since being first thought of in 1947, two men were on a mission to get the first cellular telephone up and running. It was in the 50’s before the first cellular telephone was invented (Wikipedia, 2008). Its success and size were both big. These telephones only had direct dialing, but it was still awesome to have a cellular telephone (Wikipedia, 2008). Cellular telephones just grew in success, but much smaller in size.
The latest cellular telephone craze is the iPhone by Apple. This cellular telephone does not only text, but has a Global Positioning System, iPod, camera, internet, and much, much more (Apple, Inc., 2008). It is amazing that a cellular telephone has the ability to communicate to anyone in the world, but also has access to boundless information with the internet, all in your hand!
This up and coming technology has made a beneficial impact to many. It is convenient that we have the ability to look up directions when we are lost and be able to talk to anyone whenever we choose, but are we becoming too dependent on what we want conveniently, that we are becoming lazy? Many jobs do not even allow cellular telephones to be used during working hours, and some buildings do not let you enter with them on. This does show that we are on the telephone too much, for whatever reason.
