EFFECTS OF PSYCHOSEXUAL THEORY ON CHARACTER
If one has difficulties in any of the tasks associated with the stages- weaning, potty training, or finding your sexual identity- one’ll tend to remain certain infantile or childish habits. This is called fixation. According to Freud, fixation gives each problem at each stage a long term effect in terms of our personality or character. We find 5 types of character according to fixation point of view. These are:- I. Oral-passive character

II. Oral-aggressive character
III. Anal expulsive character
IV. Anal retentive character
V. Phallic characters
Here are they in brief description…
Oral-passive character
Stage: Oral stage
Duration: First eight months
Causes:
Often frustrated in need to suckle due to mother is uncomfortable or behave rough. Was tried to wean too early by mother.

Effects:
Rather dependent on others.
Often retain an interest in oral gratifications such as eating, drinking & smoking.

ORAL –AGGRESSIVE CHARACTER
Stage: Oral stage
Duration: Between 5 to 8 months
Causes:
Frustrated with not to biting mommy’s nipple
Precipitated an early weaning

Effects:
Retains a life-long desire to bite on things, such as pencils, gum & other people. Having a tendency to be verbally
Aggressive
Argumentative
Sarcastic & so on.

ANAL EXPULSIVE CHARACTER
Stage: Anal stage
Duration: 18 months to 3/4 years
Causes:
Parents put themselves at the child’s mercy in the process of toilet training. They beg, cajole, show great joy when child do it right, they act as though their hearts were broken if don’t.

Effects:
Tend to be
Sloppy
Disorganized &
Generous to a fault
May be
Cruel
Destructive
Given to vandalism & graffiti.

ANAL RETENTIVE CHARACTER
Stage: Anal stage
Duration: 18 months to 3/4 years
Causes:
Strict parents
Getting punishment or humiliation in toilet training

Effects:
Tend to be
Clean
