Using illegal drugs has many damaging effects on an individual. These effects not only damage a person physically but also mentally and emotionally. The effects of illegal drug usage have long lasting effects on the individual long after the drug usage has stopped as well.
We have all seen the commercial from the first Bush administration, where a guy takes an egg, smashes it in a frying pan and says, “This is your brain on drugs.” This was used as a scare tactic to keep kids away from drugs. The problem with this sort of tactic is that it was meant to show the physical effects of drug usage but it didn’t teach kids the right effects. The first time I saw a group of people using drugs, I was waiting for their brain to literally fry, and when it didn’t happen like that, naturally I was curious about the truth of drugs. I saw a bunch of people passing this joint around and laughing and dancing, not melting away and smoking from the inside out, so naturally I joined the crowd without knowing the true physical effects I was partaking in.
Marijuana is one of the most common used illegal drugs despite its harmful effects on the human body. Marijuana is a drug that is smoked and causes severe damages to your lungs. The smoke that enters your lungs can cause asthma, emphysema, cancer and many other cardiopulmonary diseases. There is also a misconception about marijuana that it is a natural plant, yet over the years growers have been increasing the THC levels in marijuana by using steroids and other chemicals during the growing process to enhance their product. These steroids and growth enhancers are chemicals and also have many long lasting effects on the human body such as growth stunt and brain cell damages.
Other drugs, more hardcore drugs, have even worse effects on the human body than marijuana. Cocaine for example damages your sinuses, eats away your nose...
