Effective Communication

Few healthcare workplaces today can be considered true boundaryless organizations. Workplace trends within and outside healthcare are requiring employees to connect with an ever-widening array of co-workers, consultants, off-site employees, and other resources. Whatever form a boundaryless organization takes, sharing knowledge is critical to the organization’s success.
Prepare a 700- to 1,050-word paper in which you consider ways in which your organization currently shares knowledge and/or involves employees in formulating solutions to problems.
• What techniques have been most effective for sharing information and ideas?
• What techniques were ineffective?
• How might these techniques be applied or modified in a healthcare work environment?
• How can technology impact this process as well?

Use a minimum of three references to support your paper.

I have worked with my current employer for six months. I work with clients with a learning disability, within a supported housing setting. My current job role is as a ‘care assistant’. I am responsible for providing support to the service user’s, which includes: Personal care, assisting with meal preparation, assisting with medication, assisting with meal planning, and maintaining records for service delivered. I received an induction training course when I first joined the company, which provided specialised training relating to the learning disability sector. I receive regular supervision with my line manager, where I can discuss any problems, and get support. I can also request training, and my manager can highlight areas where she thinks I would benefit from further training in. I attend regular refresher courses in training, so that I am up to date with the current standards required for my role. I treat all service users with respect and dignity, and my work practices reflect and promote equal opportunities. I have read, and understand my Company’s policies and procedures, and am aware of what to do in most circumstances, and the correct reporting/recording procedures to follow. I always work in a professional manner, and ensure all service user information is kept up to date, and confidential.…

For the past six weeks being back in the classroom has help me to shift my focus when it comes to communicating. There was a point and time when I felt like what I said and how I said it was the only thing that mattered. However, I have learned throughout this course that Communicating an authentic self requires consistency between your presentation of self and your self – concept. Our presentation of self depends on whom we are communicating with and is called facework (Dobkin (2006). Communication in a Changing World). In this essay, I am prepared to show evidence of how I have learned to communicate better as well as the things that I need to improve within my methods of communication. After reviewing my Personal Skills Inventory Chart, I am not where I want to be but I am better than what I use to be six weeks ago. These changes will not happen overnight but, I am bound to improve them prior to me advancing to my next level as a student of Walden University.…

To begin, we as people think that communication is very simple, since we speak it. Miscommunication can cause conflicts in a work place if it is misinterpreted by the listener or speaker. Effective communication skills are very important not only for the supervisors (minorities) but also for the employees especially in a call center: everything involves communication! Good communication skills are to increase customer satisfactions, and increase efficiency. Effective communication is “a two way information sharing process which involves one party sending a message that is easily understood by the receiving party. Effective communication by business managers facilitates information sharing between company employees and can substantially contribute to its commercial success (www.buisnessdictionary.com). It is not easy to develop effective communication skills unless communication practices. I have found that people who are good at reading feedback accurately are much better communicators. A comedian who can’t judge if the crowd is enjoying his routine is more than likely not doing very well. In order for the comedian to really catch his crowds’ full attention; he needs to be able to use the reaction of the crowd as feedback. This feedback can be used to tell him what jokes are too far and which ones are ok. This shows that there is a relationship between the ability to read feedback and the ability to communicate information or to motivate or persuade an audience. Another thing to take into consideration is the ability of someone to give effective feedback. If this comedian did this same routine in front of friends who came from the same area as him the routine might have seemed to be a hit. This could be due to friends being nice or the jokes are localized to where they live or many other things. The effective feedback in this instance would be the approach of someone they don’t know and would the jokes have the same effect.…

A boundary organization allows businesses the opportunity to express their concerns. Boundary organizations are formed to manage meetings in distinct areas and encourage the production of knowledge. These organizations are eliminating the older ways of communication done through the traditional one-way flow. They are effectively changing the hypothesis that supports the existence of boundaries. The exchange of transferred knowledge has been a great challenge for many organizations. According to David I. Levine & April Gilbert “First, knowledge appears to be an increasing proportion of many organizations total assets. Second, organizations have moved away from hierarchical methods of control toward more decentralized…
