Effective communication is important virtually anywhere you are in contact with others. An important thing to remember about communication in the real world is that there is no non-communication. Pretty much everything we do in the company of others is still communicating on some sort of level like the facial expressions, hand gestures, and body language we use when speaking. Any and all of these things do communicate something to the other party. When others hear one speak they perceive views of whether one is sincere or not about what it is they are saying and may also make decisions on how one feels about them from these forms of communication.
In a work environment effective communication is important for many reasons. If one does not communicate effectively or does not speak correctly with their boss, they may be passed up for a promotion. Also one could be replaced for not good communication skills with someone who does. Communicating effectively can make a difference in the outcome of many different things such as a job interview, a presentation, or a proposal. There are many disadvantages to not being able to communicate effectively at work. In order to be a manager and to be in charge of any amount of people one needs to have effective communication skills otherwise things become unclear amongst one’s employees what it is one may want or expect from them.
