Effect of Mdgs/Nti Capacity Building Workshops for Primary School Teachers on Pupils’ Academic Performance in Ibadan, Nigeria
thirty years ago, then exiled Senator Benigno 'Ninoy' Aquino' decided to return to the country then gripped in the claws of a dictator. On August 21, 1983, as he stepped down in the Manila International Airport tarmac, he was shot and killed, crimson blood staining his white suit. Historical accounts said several people had warned Ninoy that death awaited him, yet he was not deterred, even as he said these words, now immortalized, " Filipinos are worth dying for." Indeed, with his death, a nation gripped by fear of a dictator was awakened, and outrage spilled through the streets of Manila and other provinces. Filipinos could no longer sat idly while the dictator and his cohorts plunged the country in the mire, thus, the unfolding of the 1986 historic peaceful people power revolution that toppled the 20 -year Marcos rule. Freedom was regained and democracy restored to Filipinos, fuelled by one man's ultimate sacrifice. Today, our country needs several "Ninoys" not one who will literally die but one who will unselfishly sacrifice for others even in smallest deeds and in every small decisions-- the willingness to do what is right for the country and its people. As many parts of the Luzon are ravaged by habagat and typhoons for the past few days, let the heroes in us come forth and extend help to our kababayans.
Ninoy's son, President Benigno S. Aquino in his message celebrating his father's martyrdom said, "As we celebrate his courage and patriotism, may we be reminded that individual choice can change the course of our history, and that each and every Filipino carries the potential to bring about lasting transformation in society. Let the heroes in each of us thrive in our everyday words and action, in service of the greater good; exercise the freedom we enjoy today to spark a revolution for positive change and cast our stake in forging our destiny as a nation." For we are a country of heroes, notwithstanding our political inclinations or our

The Fifth State of the Nation Address, SONA 2014, was successfully delivered on Monday, July 28, 2014, at the Batasang Pambansa Complex in Quezon City. The President's second to the last SONA marked his fourth year in presidency, earning several rounds of applause from Senators, Congressmen, government officials, local and international media and few celebrities in the country. This year's SONA had no published theme, but the remarkable message he mentioned at the end of his speech was, as we quoted from the slain senator Ninoy Aquino, “The Filipino is worth dying for.”, “The Filipino is worth living for living for.”, "and The Filipino is definitely worth fighting for."…

The documentary entitled “Batas Militar” was filmed to reminisce what had happened in the Philippine history. How Ferdinand Marcos, from being a great leader, turned into a monstrous dictator, how the lives of the Filipinos were affected then, and how his arch-nemeses, Ninoy Aquino led the ‘anti-Marcos’ group sacrificed his life for the country. Ninoy Aquino had to flee the Philippines after having been threatened by Marcos. He might be in America but he continued to be a hero to all the Filipinos and bravely fought against Marcos still. Because of this, Marcos cancelled Aquino’s passport. When Aquino arrived in Manila using his fake passport, he was assassinated, and up until now it has not been given any justice. The death of Ninoy Aquino’s death opened the eyes of most of the Filipinos and took away the fears of the Filipinos. This is when the people had the guts to go against Marcos and thus, EDSA 1 happened. When Marcos asked for a snap election, Corazon Aquino ran for presidency and had the trust of all the Filipinos. The Aquino regime ended the harsh government of Ferdinand Marcos.…

Last February 25, the Filipino people once again commemorated the People Power Revolution on its twenty-sixth year. Such national event has made a mark in the history being known as a bloodless revolution which other countries attempted to do as well. For the masses, it was the ultimate symbol of the true empowerment of democracy. Having ousted a so-called tyrant through the unity of the Filipino people and without any bloodshed, the EDSA Revolution manifested that power does lie on the hands of the masses. It may have meant a success for some, especially to Marcos’ enemies, but the real question is, “Did the People Power Revolution really give us freedom? Change?…

A self-proclaimed "plain housewife",[1] she was married to Senator Benigno Aquino, Jr., the staunchest critic of President Marcos. She emerged as leader of the opposition after her husband was assassinated on August 21, 1983 upon returning to the Philippines from exile in the United States. In late 1985, Marcos called for snap elections, and Aquino ran for president with former senator Salvador Laurel as her Vice-President. After the elections were held on February 7, 1986, the Batasang Pambansa proclaimed Marcos and his running mate, Arturo Tolentino, as the winners amidst allegations of electoral fraud, with Aquino calling for massive civil disobedience actions. Defections from the Armed Forces and the support of the local Catholic Church led to the People Power Revolution that ousted Marcos and secured Aquino's accession on February 25, 1986.…

I learned about the importance of freedom, love for country, sacrifice, and remembering all those who have done something worthwhile. 4 During the tribute to Pisay martyrs, I really took the time to remember and value everything they did for our country. 5 I still have those rice grains we were asked to keep in my desk drawer, and every day when I open the drawer to get paper or a pen, I always remember what the grains represented - the fruits of the labor that all the martyrs went through. 6 During the talks in the gym and in the small group discussion, I learned about the blood and sweat that all the Filipinos wasted fighting martial law. 7 Honestly, I never think of martial law heroes when I see or hear the word “hero”, because I mostly think of the heroes from the Spanish era, but then I realized that this was just a modern version of what happened to our country during the Spanish era - the people made so many sacrifices and lived through horrible and torturous times. 8 I learned about all the hardships Filipinos went through, and the many things they weren’t allowed to do, along with the very few things they were actually allowed to do. 9 I do realize that I am only…
