Educational Inequalities
In developing world and society, education is an important issue because it is central to process of socialization. We can say that the primary socialization is carried out in family, but it continues with education. Because of this, education plays a key role in secondary socialization by performing functions that the family cannot perform.(Fultcher& Scott,2007) By basic definition of education, it is a social institution teach basic information, occupational skills with cultural norms and values to individuals. Today, development levels of countries are determined not only national income per capita or inflation figures, but also producing technology, thinking scientifically. Because we live in “ information age”. When we look the education from this perspective, we cannot say that Turkey is a developed country. This is because, in our country, educational investment is not enough although there are almost 17 million students and 600 thousand teacher. Problems of education not only related to economical factors but also some moral factors create problems in education. For example, in some of the region of the Turkey, the importance of education is still not understood related to some traditional effects, so in there children’s continuation of school have more difficulties. Therefore, because of this moral and material effects, we can say about inequalities in education.
The relationship between education and inequality has been one of the main issues of the sociology of education. While many people in our country have education, very few of them receive the same education. As a reason, we can say about the material inequalities in education. Every year, many children start to school. When the season of school is starts, we can see a lot of news about the traffic block, the bad situation of student service in the first day of school.
