1. What is your personal philosophy in life as a teacher? How does it affect your performance in the academe and your involvement in the society?
I always believe that teaching is a vocation, not a career. It is my personal choice, nobody forced or influenced me in joining the teaching force. By having this set in my mind, being optimistic, even when the hours seem so long and the times are so tough, comes as a gentle patch to my weary soul. It is my joy to see that my student have learned something from me, not just academics, but more on how to thrive as a human being, their psychological and mental make-up is secure and sound. I feel that I am giving back to the society by giving them well-rounded individuals who can help our country flourish and grow better someday.
2. Give one philosophical thought and elaborate on its meaning, purpose and use in the field of education.
I have always been a follower of pragmatism. It is the highest form of thought, so I can only try to be pragmatic. It is basically a school of thought advocating “application” as the only means you can measure what you have learned. If you apply all of the theories, that you have learned, you are being pragmatic. This school of thought mainly focuses on the importance of what you learn. If you doubt even your learning, you have had analyzed and just keep what you really needed in life. I believe that it is not really important for you to memorize all the constellations in Mars if you don’t get the point on why you have to learn them all. Simply put, pragmatism makes you discover, analyze and apply what you have learned in life.
3. From the four major areas in philosophy, choose one which you believe should be given emphasis in every educational institution’s curriculum.
