  A. He was born as Edgar Poe in Boston, Massachusetts.

  2. His mother died shortly after his father abandoned the family.
  B. Poe was best known mystery and the macabre.
  1. Poe and his works influenced literature in the United States and around the world.
  2. His work appears throughout popular culture in literature, music, films, and television.
  II.   Edgar Allan Poe was, and still is an admiration of author when it is about horror and creepy stories.
  A. Masque of the Red Death
  1. A story about a disease known as the Red Death plagues the fictional country where this tale is set, and it causes its victims to die quickly and gruesomely.
  B. The cask of Amontillado
  1. The story features revenge and secret murder as a way to avoid using legal channels for retribution.
  III. “Poe was the first writer to write about main characters who were bad guys or who were mad guys, and those are some of my favorite stories” implied Stephen King who advocated Poe’s stories.
  A. King, Stephen is a popular American author of horror and suspense fiction that decided to modernize his short stories, by using Poe’s fictional work.
  1. King captured the idea of “Masque of the Red Death” from Poe and wrote “Man in the Black Suit”.
  2. Besides he King wrote “Dolan’s Cadillac”, when he was deeply inspired by Edgar Allan Poe’s “The Cask of Amontillado”.
  B. Poe and King both share an interest in horror, terror, death, and murder. Their many works reflect an imagination that most of their readers will only experience when dreaming at night.
  IV. Stephen King besides being inspired by Edgar Allan Poe also bears other assimilations to his inspiration Poe.
