Foreword
This essay is going to introduce the two international financial markets in Hong Kong and Shanghai. It goes through the history, present and future forecasting. In addition, it will focus on the comparison of the markets and the future role in the financial sectors in Asia. There are rooms for cooperation between them but also conflicts. In the last part, it would introduce the development of Hong Kong and Shanghai respectively.
Background of the two cities
1. Basic information of Hong Kong
Hong Kong Island was first occupied by British forces in 1841, and then formally ceded from China under the Treaty of Nanjing at the end of the war. Hong Kong remained a colony of the United Kingdom until 1997 when it was returned to China. Because of it geographical location, well-developed legal and taxation system, free market economy and a large pool of well-educated manpower, Hong Kong is known as one of the world's leading financial capitals also a major business and cultural hub.
