ECONOMIC POLICY AND INDIVIDUAL BEHAVIOR
Set Objective
The first step before creating a policy is to set the objective. Our main objective is to create a policy that will reduce obesity and the reasons that cause it. In our era, the epidemic of obesity has received bigger dimensions than those of pestiferous diseases and malnutrition, and constitutes henceforth the most serious threat for the public and world health. A lot of scientific researches support that except for some genetic inclination that can lead the individual to the obesity, the environment and his psychosocial extensions, play decisive role in the development but also in the therapeutic re-establishment of pathogenic obesity.
Obesity has been considered to be the cause of various situations that are harmful for individual’s health. People who suffer from obesity are more likely in danger of a sudden death as well as many other complications such us obstruent breathlessness while sleeping, drowsiness during the day, cardiac insufficiency, immobility and generally restriction of daily activities. The numbers are shivering and show the size of problem. During the year 2004, 10.000 deaths of young people in Canada were recorded (12 up to 44 years old) from complications of obesity and 320.000 in Europe die each year. Obesity kills each year double number of people than the combination of smoking, alcoholism and drink driving according to the Canadian National Statistical Service.
The psychosocial consequences however, are considered to be even heavier. Obesity negatively influences the self-esteem and self-image of the individual, and the immobility limits the labour and recreational activities. Furthermore the social humiliation becomes an everyday experience, as the body appears huge to others.
