Placement activities:

11/11/2013
Craft table:
The activity that I had to manage was using different shapes to make patterns on Elma the elephant. The children had been told the story earlier in the day and was asked to think of their own pattern for Elma. The children had to use the shapes that they had been learning about; square, circle, triangle, hexagon.
I was asked to supervise the activity to ensure the children stay on task, and to give any support that may be needed. This could mean supporting children to hold the shapes still while they draw round them.
I think the activity objectives was meet, as all children created their own Elma pattern. The activity could be improved by making it more challenging for the children, this could be done by asking the children to give Elma a repeated pattern, as the children learned how to do this the week before.

Phonics:
I was asked to take a group of children for their phonics lesson. I was asked to get the children to practice forming letter and listen to how many sounds of the letters the children knew. The resources i had was a white board, letter and sounds cards, white board pens, and i was in a quiet area.
The activity went well, however the children had a very short attention span so it was hard to keep the focused on the tasked, I did reach the outcome that i was asked to and was able to give feedback to the teacher on how the children did.
I think the activity could be improved by making it a little more exciting and appealing for the children. This could be done with the use of more resources for the children to use, or even the use of a game.

Snack shop:
I was asked to play the role of a shop keeper, and the children had to come and find the write about of money from the tub to pay for their snack. The children had been learning about 1p, 2p and 5p. The children had to find a 5p piece if they wanted milk and find 3p if the wanted a banana. The children really enjoyed this

    2. The next day I decided to bring in an old hat from home that we could use as an activity for the toddlers. During circle time one of the toddlers began to say the word hat-cold. I began to smile and introduce to the toddlers a different hat. I also had different colored blocks for the toddlers. As I put one block in the hat, I gave the hat to one toddler to put a block in. I was demonstrating and assisting the toddlers with passing and putting the blocks in the hat.…

For this activity I did corn flour and used the age range of 1-3 year olds. I completed this activity on a lino floor so it was easy and safe for me and also the other children to play. I done it on 2 tables put together which made a red hexagon. I made sure I only had 4 children at one time because there were only 4 aprons I could use at the time. To make sure I planned effectively, the day before I went round to the nursery’s play shed and made sure they had a tray that I could do the activity on, I then proceeded to make a list so I knew what I had to bring in the next day. When it got to the next day I placed the red hexagon table on the lino floor with aprons on 4 chairs for the children to sit on. To make sure I followed the health and…

The activity was set as a whole class activity so that the children could work together as a group in order to produce images and descriptions of their favourite places. It helped that the lower ability children could work alongside a higher-ability pupil in order to share ideas and to discuss what they were doing. I found that some children were more interested in colouring the pictures and not working to complete all of the task. Therefore, it was beneficial to stop the children to remind them of what I expected. I also found that too many children were round a certain table at once as they all wanted to complete the same areas first. To improve on this, I would consider making the children sit down at a table and complete their drawings/explanations on a post-it note which could be stuck onto the paper at the end of the…

The children seemed to be interested in the activity and were able to relate the topic to their everyday life. When it comes to the NYS common core learning standard’s this learning activity falls under domain five, cognition and knowledge of the world section civics, citizenship and government. I do believe this activity is process-oriented because the child was given the opportunity to draw and write about what they think responsibility meant to them. The only form of adaptation I saw within the classroom was when the teacher needed to break down the directions for a few children that had problems understand what she was asking from the class with their citizenship book.…
