Preschoolers are continuously on the move, exploring their world with high spirits, curiosity, and a never-ending supply of energy. A child’s ability to learn in this stage is huge. Preschool-age children gain knowledge of and develop from every experience, relationship, and adventure they encounter. Having the proper space and chance to discover objects and play environments helps preschool children discover their imagination and master the motor, cognitive, language, and social skills that are vital for future development.
Early childhood is a time of tremendous growth throughout all areas of development. The dependent newborn grows into a young person that will soon be able to care of their own body as well as interact effectively with others. Research has shown that between birth and three years of age a child’s height doubles in and weight quadruples. Throughout these years your child will lose baby fat and increase the amount if muscle causing their body proportions to shift also. An infant, whose head is one-fourth of total body length, evolves into a toddler with a more balanced, adult-like appearance. The physical growth of a child also slows down during this stage.
Physical changes in early childhood are associated with the accelerated changes in the child's cognitive and language development. The moment a child is born, they use all their senses to attend to their environment. They also begin to establish a sense of cause and effect from their actions and the responses of others. In spite of these sudden physical changes, the average three-year-old has attained many skills, including sitting, walking, toilet training, using a spoon, scribbling, as well as adequate hand-eye coordination to catch and throw a ball.
