Earliest memory can differ from person to person based on a number of factors refs but according to Potwin (1991), the average age for a woman’s first memory is 3.01 years and for a man it is 4.4 years. A second variable was in determining at what age the event took place. Unless it was a major event such as a wedding or birth, memories of a very young age could not be determined and were not included in the study. Also, some participants memories were hazy and only events distinctly remembered were included. Of the 17 memory types included, only the three occurring the most were single occurrences like slapping a baby sister or breaking a siblings toy, minor details and self principally involved. The least occurring memory types were the birth of a sibling, learning to walk, learning the alphabet and the auditory type of which there was only one individual [   (Potwin, 1991) ].
