INTRODUCTION

In reaction to global pressures Dyson planned to launch itself into international business. This report is written to advise the board of the company on the benefits of using Information Resources and Enterprise system to compete effectively and efficiently thereby having a competitive advantage in the Industry. It will place emphasis on how competitive advantage could be achieved using information resources and technology on the Value chain.

The report will furthermore discuss on the need for acquisition and implementation of an enterprise system which will assist in integrating the various units, customers, suppliers dispersed all over 50 countries from where it is operating thereby reducing cost and enhancing relationships with all its customers and other partners.

The report will conclude by proffering implementation strategies that will assist the company to achieve the benefits associated with Information resources and enterprise system among which includes prompt decision making, reduced operating cost and a host of others that will be discussed extensively in the body of the report.

Dyson Limited. designs, manufactures, and sells today is leader and specialized in selling vacuum cleaners, the company offer also washing machines, hand driers, as well various parts and accessories, Dyson Ltd. was incorporated in 1991 and is based in Malmesbury, United Kingdom and in 2002, the company transferred the production to Malaysia and keeping the Research and Development (R&D) operations at the company's headquarters in Malmesbury, Wiltshire. James Dyson always comes out with products that use better technology, better design and better engineering and try charge premium prices for they robust products.

INFORMATION RESOURCES

Information resource, are divided in four key, and creating the hierarchy: data, information and knowledge and wisdom (DIKW). Data is regarded with raw facts while information is the summarization of data. Technology and information/knowledge represent ‘hard’ and ‘soft’ resources available to the organization. One of the primary goals of today’s global organization is to ensure the free flow of quality data and information with its value system and to use such resources to operate, add value and compete. Information resources are strategically important resources, enabling and informing strategy, creating capabilities and competences when bundled with other resources Kelly (2009).

Perspectives on information systems and information technology, data are streams of raw facts representing events occurring in organization or the physical environment before they have been organized into a form that people can understand and use. Information Technology (IT) consists of all the hardware and software that a firm, needs to use in order to achieve its business objectives. Information system can be defined technically as a set of interred components that collect, process, store, and distribute information to support decision making and control in an organization (Laudon 2005). Many global companies such as Dyson recognize the benefits of a homogeneous and integrated information system and information technology system. And they know that the goal of today’s organization is having the right information, in the right place, in the right format, at the right time, at the right cost, the result is that information will be accessible to the manager who will exploit these information assets for business development. This will eventually help the company to understand its customers’ needs better and allows it to add value while creating more innovative products that will give them a better service experience....
